As a general rule, yes-ish. If you don’t get a flu shot (you have to report to your employer that you got it) you have to wear a mask at all times around patients. Since I don’t work with patients and my office is off-site, I don’t have to get it, but I do.

Unfortunately, there is so much misinformation and fear-mongering out there about the flu shot (and vaccines more generally) that it’s really easy to misattribute coincidental health stuff to something that probably didn’t affect you at all other than protecting…

The flu shot moderates the severity and length of the flu if you do get it. Lots of people are down for two weeks with the flu. Being down for 5 is pretty good and almost certainly thanks to the flu shot.

My boss, a nurse, told me not to take nasal decongestants when I have sinus crap going on, as they can actually make it worse long term. Daily saline rinsing is the way to go, plus a nasal spray if you deal with post nasal drip.

My work does a flu shot drive every year (I work for a healthcare organization headquartered at a hospital) and I go the first day it’s available. And try to convince my colleagues who really should know better that it’s in their best interest (and mine!) for them to get a flu shot.

As a survivor and a former victim services worker, I don’t think that’s a nasty message at all. She’s saying that he got away with his terror because he purposely went after vulnerable girls, and that his power and predation ends here because she has power over him and isn’t vulnerable.
