Because even if she’s an ax murderer, she’s still the kid’s mom and the kid will love her in some way no matter what? And if you tell your kid that mom sucks, the kid likely will worry that they 50% suck by being half mom. Kids are little sponges and even if that’s not how you mean it, it’s how they may internalize.

Oh believe me...Ive been there, is all. And as much as it’s fun to entertain fantasies about Delivering Justice with a flaming sword...at the end of the day, you have to model sanity and kindness for your kid. It sucks sometimes, but you still do it, lol.

Look, I’m the LAST person to be all “men’s rights!” But...that’s the kids dad. He seems like he’s likely even the primary caregiver right now as far as actual hands-on care goes. He has a right to be in her life even if he’s Captain Toxic, and right now he’s more like Sergeant Toxic.

Depends on the tone right?

Grasp at those straws and shift those goalposts a little harder. Way to assume you know anything about what I might do as soon as I mention I’m a woman. If you think “using your looks” or being a woman in my field (engineering) gives someone an advantage in any way (spoiler: people don’t take you seriously, talk over

Yes, it is fucking horrifying that people sexualize children and that other people don’t seem to think that constitutes a “challenge” for said child to overcome. Get over yourself, you sad bitter chud.

Jurassic Park holds up extremely well, honestly. The female lead is wearing sensible clothes given her profession and no one stops her from doing her job because she’s a woman. The young girl is the hacker and Goldblum is the shirtless eye candy. All the dinosaurs are female!

i love this. i love when people (celebs or normal) let down their guards and just geek out about stuff like this. because it IS cool. it was a fun day, and i’m glad SJP had a fuckin blast.

Lol, I mean this in as lighthearted a way as possible but- I feel like negging someone’s approval of a convenience product because “it’s cheaper and better to make yourself, and not really that hard!” is much closer to my experience with competition parenting. OH YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND, sweet summer child.

Preach it! That is the other true factor. If I take time to say goodbye to Aunt Patti, and skip Aunt Mary, ohhhh man.. And as you said, folks don’t really understand the sheer numbers us Irish folks put together at gatherings.. We breed like rabbits :)

Grew up in a huge Irish family and married an Irish girl. This has been our practices since I was a baby.. This is the only way I know how to leave our gatherings :) I honestly assumed everyone did it this way until I was a teenager and my non Irish friends were alll like “how rude” when I would just leave.

Left/right everyone knows someone with a big pickup in the south, well just about anywhere. The proper way to do this is roll up at night, masked with plates covered, throw a tow rope around whatever monument tear it down, collect your shit and get out.

This is a true story. Have you read the book? It is very moving.

But it’s not the same as the destruction of the languages in the new world. There are definitely parallels, but to say what we went through is as bad as what First Nations and Native Americans still go through is unfair. We have a much firmer grasp on our culture and traditions, where many many FN and others had

Since the Moral Dictator dismissed my comment (and every dissenting opinion) in response to them I’ll post it again:

I mean, the absolute gall of it. Half of those “accents” come from their brutal colonization of those places.

Who would have guessed that a discussion of the disappearance of indigenous languages would shift to a discussion of the painful loss of white regional accents among English speakers.

This comment is fucking offensive. Your loss of accent is not the same as the loss of an entire language.

I mean, I can kind of see your point but the fact is these languages aren’t dying out “organically” - they fell into disuse because of the abyssal way we’ve (mis)treated these people over the years and basically criminalized Indigenous languages through residential schools.
