I think some of that might be how different communities migrated into the States! I grew up in an area of NJ that had a ton of Italian immigrants- from forever back, of course, but everyone had clustered up together and kept traditions onward. I think the same was once true of German groups, but after WWI-WWII German

Well, he might understand what it’s like if we let Diego Luna get his hands on him.

In middle school, I went as Leia for Halloween. Of course I did, a million girls did.

The time I went to D*Con, right after the show had ended, Olmos had been advertised as a guest but he wasn’t able to make it because he was filming. Hogan called him up and held his phone to the mic so Olmos could lead the crowd in a round of So Say We All.

Oh gosh now I HAVE TO watch that. Saul/Ellen is my OTP from BSG, honestly, and Saul had so many of my favorite moments.

OMG, I’m so jealous! I’ve seen him at cons and found him delightful, and I’m so glad your experience confirmed it.

Maybe this is anecdotal, but I was kind of obsessed with the commentary track on BSG, and there was this reoccurring theme that many of the best moments were ones improvised by actors, even against direct orders by the showrunners, writers and directors. That once in the editing room, the moments that the actors

I’m the same way! I like to shower in the evening so it has a little time to dry before bed, and then braid it so the wild bed hair situation is minimized.

Well, of course, because fictional characters created by mostly male dev teams have more sexual agency than actual people.

I quote Rough Sand any time there’s an opportunity.

I haven’t, and I worked at a film festival for most of last year.

I recently watched the nearly incredible film The Handmaiden.

I’m going to be laughing at this ten years from now.

You’ve got me thinking about the fanservice in Evangelion, which starts out as typical teenage boy fanservice and then takes a turn to becoming... deeply uncomfortable. That’s my favorite.

This is the dumbest possible panel. I love it. The little insecure lip quiver, like she’s just so ~ashamed~ that she can’t come up with a good enough reason to cover herself.

I feel about fanservice the same way I feel about snakes.

This is certainly it. I was so irritated by how the Tracer Bum Discourse was being framed as “feminists don’t want any women to be sexy” instead of “why do they all have to be sexy all the time?”

Haha, yeah! I felt that way about the Asari, especially at first - though that incidental conversation in the bar that you overhear about how the Asari look like sexy females from every species? kinda redeemed that for me. It made me consider them as horrible space monsters that use big tits or... whatever... to

I don’t know if I would have if I hadn’t loved that part of Mass Effect so much! It just made so much sense to me that not every species would work like humans do, and that they should all be different, more so if they don’t have the ability to crossbreed.

The dragonborn in my partner’s game are parthenogenic. All female. The genetic diversity of their offspring is generated by the magical forces they come into contact with.
