I read the Shining a few years ago, and I instantly understood why King didn’t like the movie, and he has every right to. It is a major departure from the themes of the book, but because Kubrick was regarded as a genius director and most people never bothered to read the book, they thought King was just a crank.
You could have called them directly, placed the exact same order, and not given a third party any of the money. That order costs the restaurant, which already has razor thin profit margins, just because you didn’t want to make a phone call.
Usually, that’s because film makers don’t give a shit about your silly videogame and just make whatever movie they want to make with a game’s name attached to it. Same for Comic book movies or most other adaptations from anything until very recently.
