I should have mentioned, if you really want to save that cold water, run it into a bucket until it gets hot, put the bucket aside to flush the toilet.
That’s different- you are running the water for a purpose, if you didn’t run it in the sink, you’d run the same amount of water in the shower until it got hot.
I remember hearing this tip on water saving PSAs as a kid, and I couldn’t even understand that people would leave the water running while brushing their teeth at all. Like, why? It’s not like you constantly rinse off the brush after each quadrant or anything.
