If an undocumented individual marries a U.S. citizen they still have to go through the permanent resident and naturalization process. That process is complicated by certain requirements.

She was, media reports her as being born in the U.S. in 1988 after her parents emigrated from Mexico a few years earlier.

True, but states commonly engage in a sort of dual reasoning with respect to internal and external affairs, where Russia/USSR or China reminding outsiders about the plight of African Americans or Native Americans, or colonialism in Africa, India, and elsewhere is more about eroding Western moral authority when it

I agree with you, I was thinking of pointing out that the missing colonial frame of reference also translates into a blithe view or openness, arguably even naivety, when discussing race or engaging in racist conduct that would easily be beyond the pale in American discourse. It’s as if, because the original sin of

Was reading the thread and I think it’s worth pointing out that there is a difference between Western and Eastern Europe when it comes to colonial history. In that regard, American blackface scandals just wouldn’t register, it wouldn’t matter if something could be googled within 10 seconds, because people wouldn’t

Lol, no. His national press coverage was about how he’s using technology and new construction to attract business to the city, about his background as a Harvard and Oxford graduate, his participation in the Navy Reserve, and his age. The only serious mention of social issues in that early coverage? Accusations of

Sanders kept quiet about wealth disparity for years and only trotted the issue out and thoroughly criticized it while on the presidential campaign trail?

The guy was mayor for two terms, ran for DNC chair, and had some national press coverage while mayor, but it took a week in April of 2019 for him to have the appropriate platform to criticize Pence? Even the book he wrote in anticipation of running for president, where he took the opportunity to discuss his attributes,

Would be nice if that short history included actions on those issues. But I guess we can hear all about it in speeches now.

Good things for some, bad things for others!

Going after the police for illegal wiretapping and racial bias isn’t really the story.

What signs? Were there particularly progressive undertakings that he engaged in as mayor, either successfully or unsuccessfully? Did he work for a progressive cause or enterprise? In undergrad or graduate school did he participate in progressive causes?

I have a problem when people display or wield their principles only when it’s of maximum benefit for them. I think it’s pointless to get hung up on whether or not Buttigieg’s view of Pence is genuine, it very likely is, that isn’t the issue.

I would settle for pointing to some sort of actions prior to running for President that back up his current views, because pointing to urban renewal, tearing down houses, and the creation of a business friendly atmosphere while mayor doesn’t cut it for me.

My issue with his criticism of Pence is that it feels like it took running for President for him to seriously make it. The reason Pence can honestly say that he had a cordial professional relationship with Buttigieg is because that’s what they had.

Is there any serious indication that Buttigieg is more than a centrist who can talk a good game? Because he seems quite a bit like someone who found the progressive vocabulary because he’s running for President, and I’d include his recent criticism of Pence in that.

Yeah, didn’t Pelosi also say that she won’t hold or run for the Speakership after the 2020 election? Or am I misremembering?

Thought a lot of people had by end of day November 8th, 2016?

Tell me about it.

Also somewhat similar to the Obama 08 “Hope and Change” routine, but without Obama’s resume as a civil rights lawyer and community organizer.
