Agree completely. Before moving to a small town, I used the terms interchangeably. Now the “highway” refers to major roads that are not limited access that generally have a 55 mph speed limit, while the Interstate refers to, well, the big numbered roads in the interstate system.

Bubbler is a specific kind of water fountain. It may now be applied to all water fountains in certain areas, but it derives from the kind that continuously puts up a small, vertical stream of water that appears to “bubble” up. Like this:

Before I moved to West Virginia, I did not know that another name for a groundhog is “whistle pig.”

I don’t see the incongruity here. Is not calling someone an Indianan a mortal insult itself?

Double Mountain has great pizza in addition to fantastic beer. Don’t skip the IRA (India Red Ale)! I moved away a few years back, but I still think of a perfect winter day as skiing on Mt. Hood, then heading down the mountain and across the river to hang with the Russians at the bath house, and then to Double Mountain

Oscar Blues beers are fantastic all around. Their most famous is the Dale’s Pale Ale (can kinda looks like Dad’s root beer, without the yellow) but almost all are great. They were the pioneers of canning craft beer and just recently opened an east coast operation (started in CO) so we can get fresher product.

Not gonna say I don’t enjoy a good Yuengling or some such macro on a sweaty afternoon, but if you have the means to crack a craft brew of the same style, like Oscar Blues Mama’s Little Yella Pils, it just makes the experience that much more enjoyable.

Beer is beer, but beer where the alcohol sugars primarily come from rice, like Budweiser, are a far cry from those made with quality 100% malted barley. I’ll happily drink a Bud if given to me, but to pretend that it is in the same class of beverage as a well-made Vienna lager is just silly.

Right. But you can get crappy store brand cheddar and you can get a delicious irish medium cheddar, which are two very different things. Craft beer makers, especially in the past 5 or so years, do an excellent job with the same light lagers and pilsners that the mega-breweries butcher. Totally understandable that you

Sounds like you (1) haven’t developed a palate for beer, or (2) just don’t like beer, which is fine. Many of us do really enjoy the taste of beer. I often drink a single beer knowing that I will not get any appreciable buzz. Also, I often drink one beer knowing that I will get a buzz because many non-swill beers pack

You really seem to like the “big” micros, huh? Deschutes and Full Sail make good beer (Full Sail less so, if you ask me), but I don’t know why you’d choose those breweries/pubs to visit when there are so many superior options in terms of quality and character. For example, if you go to Hood River and visit Full Sail

Totally with you. I’m not a Philly fan but really hope Embiid has a full career because that guy is just incredibly fun to watch when healthy.

Right. It’s just that if he’s good this season, the offer sheet that Philly will have to match will not likely include the injury protections (whatever they are) that Philly has presumably gotten in this deal.

Calling Michael Carter Williams “an actual rookie of the year” doesn’t make him any less of a worthless piece that they were right to deal.

Or . . . (adjusts tinfoil hat), the “controversy” created by Safelite’s critical tweet was part of the plan all along in hopes that it would generate articles just like this one.

They cannot. But, if you can sign him to an extension now, you remove the possibility that he will walk in free agency in a couple years. As a second rounder, I’m pretty sure the team doesn’t have restricted free agency rights on him (meaning they don’t get the opportunity to match another team’s offer). So, you pay

Huh. This was actually my response when my wife asked if we should have kids.

The conspiracy theorist inside me had the same thought.

So many major universities have basically turned into real estate development firms. It is a shame.

This is not really accurate. You’re correct that the deal is disastrous, but it is disastrous for the city and its taxpayers precisely because it is so favorable to the University. The problem is that the Arena Authority that represented the city in the negotiations was basically another arm of the UofL Athletics
