Have you heard republicans speak? Wrong and self-righteous go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Another way to say that is, “Holy shit! How do you get outscored 50-11 in the last 13:30 of the game?”

To be fair, they never said that the death threats were funny and very clearly condemned them. The rest of the stuff that they did laugh at was bad behavior and was harassment, but it wasn’t criminal. There’s nothing illegal about leaving a fake negative review on a facebook page or calling a business to complain

Probably not, given that the main defendant/radio host is the founder of the company. To be clear, I’m not completely condoning their actions, I just think this lawsuit is an abuse of the legal system. If the ref wanted to go after anyone, it should be the people who made the video encouraging people to contact his

The fans’ behavior was obviously abhorrent and demonstrated a disturbing lack of perspective. That said, the lawsuit has no chance. It basically boils down to the claim that “even though you said multiple times that you do not condone that behavior, you laughed at it and linked a video, so it’s your fault.” Don’t

I prefer this one from later that season:

Agreed. I was just clarifying that the record as I’m aware of it now does not include Coach 2 “directly saying” where money should go. I’m overly focused on semantics, as is my wont.

Cal was never implicated in either of those. He should have known about the Rose one and very likely turned a blind eye on purpose, but he has no culpability for Camby signing with an agent while at UMASS. He reported it to the NCAA as soon as he found out and was completely absolved of any wrongdoing. I’m not saying

I don’t think they have any recorded conversations with Coach 2, just records that he had several phone calls with the Adidas guy right around the time of the Bowen commitment. So, obviously, strong evidence of his knowledge/involvement, but not quite direct proof. More info could come out, of course.

It’s clearly well below their market value.

That’s understandable.

It wouldn’t need to stop, and it shouldn’t, but it would no longer be “under the table.” It’s not just that the NCAA and its member schools don’t pay the athletes directly, it’s that they also prevent anyone else from paying them. If the NCAA amateurism rules were reformed to fit reality, players could make deals with

Yup. Not to mention that the high level teams don’t really like to play young guys very much.

In addition to the other reasons given here, most aren’t good enough at that age to really contribute in anything but the lowest division euro leagues. They’re not getting huge offers from those leagues, which are full of really skilled players and value basketball IQ and team skill that many US teenagers lack,

Both the Louisville bribes were six figures. $100,000 for Brian Bowen and $150K for whoever the 2019 commit as issue was, so this seems to be around the going rate for a 5-star commitment. The smaller payments were directly to coaches to get them to steer the players toward a particular agent/adviser upon graduation.

We just can’t be sure.

I hope this little scandal gets wrapped up quickly. I’d hate for it to keep going and going, and going, and going . . .

Where did I say anything about state ownership of business? Or, do you not really know what communism is but just like to throw the term around to disparage any government programs that help people?

That’s quite the oversimplification/false dichotomy. Instead of “smaller” government, we could instead advocate for a government that understands and respects its citizens constitutional rights. We can still have that and yet retain the portions of our government that protect us through regulating industry and

I think you’re underestimating the degree to which Trump does not give a shot about any legal limitations on his powers. Even if a court were to eventually stop him from punishing activists, these sorts of inquiries have a chilling effect on political speech and organization.
