While the terms themselves certainly aren’t common, I’m more surprised this isn’t more common knowledge.

The process of changing a detailed model to a 2d texture can be called LOD’ing, or Level of Detail. All games use this to a degree, but open world games take this to the extreme since so much can be seen at once to the player.

They’re jumping the gun based on incorrect information because they’ve got something they want to believe and having found a supposed justification they feel completely right about any and all attacks. A lot of these are fake reports that are unnecessarily stoking the flames and turning peaceful protests into violent riots.
