Exhaust is EASILY fixed! Unobtanium makes a VERY nice exhaust that doesn't drone. I have one on my 996 turbo, I'd suggest getting it with at least some muffling however. A nice rumble that goes sport bike loud WOT if you're the it sans mufflers :-) Perectly livable either way!

Prices equal the 997 is probably a better deal but I've yet to see a 997 that wasn't priced significantly higher. The price delta just doesn't seem worth it. In time that will hopefully change but I'll be too far invested in my 996 lol

So different that people swap 997 short blocks into 996. They aren't as different as you think particularly the 997.1. Share some of the same defects too.
