Good point about the split episode. I thought it was almost over once the fireman exploded and was surprised to find there was still 30 minutes left.
I think part of the problem is the show is supposed to take place in a world with superheroes, and it's about people who supposedly work with those heroes…yet there's almost no evidence in the episodes they even really exist.
I think they're one bright and socially awkward student out of Hogwarts. It's like they couldn't decide what gender to make their sciencey character, so they just included both.
