Gruden looked at the situation and punted the ball away. The Raiders had given up.

Yeah, they develop that skill by practicing it from childhood on. No voice coach required. Like the Ump Voice, the QB Cadence has a self-perpetuating cycle of influence. I grew up with umps going STEEEEEEE and quarterbacks going BLUE EIGHTY!!!!!!, and I wanted to sound like that. Sounded super manly.

Live was just so earnest. Sooooo Earnest. Makes them easy to mock, and I agree that they were better than how they’re remembered.

I'm excited for Shea Serrano's "Movies (And Other Things)" coming out at the end of the month. Loved "The Rap Yearbook" and "Conference Room Five Minutes," and have high hopes. In the meantime, I've got "Let It Bang" (RJ Young) and "Go Ahead In The Rain" (Hanif Abdurraqib) waiting on the shelf.

I’ve always found Larson’s explanation as to why he didn’t want them posted without his consent to be heartfelt and reasonable. It’s probably one of my favorite things ever published online:

It boyles my grits that a seminal scientist like Robert Hooke isn’t more well known.  He should spring to mind.
