I just put your trip into “A Better Route Planner”, assuming a Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus and it showed that this route is very viable, with only two stops, one 16 minutes and the other 6 minutes.

Our first EV was a FIAT 500E (wife, one kid, one dog). It included 12 rental car “days” (credits) for each year of the lease, so those few times a year when we needed a 4x4 pickup or SUV to get to a remote cabin, we could. There was a rental office within walking distance from home. Easy.

For gawd’s sake could you please spreading the perception that charging stations are bespoke for each manufacturer. IF you have drive a Tesla you aren’t limited to Supercharing Tesla stations, likewise if you own a MachE, you don’t have to go only to Ford stations. There are shared accepted standards for charging

but if I’m in a situation where I need to make a round trip from Houston to Austin, the EV stops being practical — and that’s just one city over.

Yes rebates (as they currently stand) give tax money to wealthier people, since the credit is non-refundable, a person must pay at least $7500 in federal taxes in order to receive the full $7500 rebate (or whatever the rebate amount is for the vehicle that you’re purchasing). Which, for a married couple filing jointly

neutral: honestly I’m fine. Apparently being a nerdy shut in for decades has made me the perfect candidate to deal with the pandemic.

1st: the more electric the better. the fact is 99% of people could use an electric car with zero difference in their daily life no problem. And to the people who “drive 600 miles

Senate Republicans should be willing to revise EV incentives since Ford with its Mach-E push will soon join GM and Tesla having run out their credits while their foreign competitors get them still.

I like the Mach-E. I really do. All the complainers about the name seem to forget that the Mustang name has been attached to far worse (and less Mustangy) cars than this in the past. It’s not like Mustang is some hallowed name that can only be bestowed upon the most refined performance machines. For every GT350,

Spot on, people buy cars based on the max use case. The 1% of time where they need extra performance, extra space, etc. If people bought cars based on the 99%, everyone would be driving a two door GTI or something like that. Yet plenty of people buy pickups to tow their boat two times a year or a 7 seater SUV because

All excellent questions. And as a parent with a 5 1/2 year old in a Britax Frontier/Grow-with-you Clicktight convertible booster thing I’m curious how these seats perform compared to alternatives. I didn’t buy mine based on marketing nonsense on the box (though I admit I was considering the more expensive model with

The whole range anxiety thing is a perfect example of the gap between what people say and what they do.  So many of us exclaim that we can’t possibly drive an EV because “Road trips”!!!!!  In fact, the vast majority of us don’t drive more than 30 miles a day.  Why can’t we base this in reality instead of some dream

The tiny taillights really make it look huge.

Yes, I’ve read it, and...?

I’ve driven a few model 3's. It doesn’t bother me. I get why some people disagree though.

I wouldn’t read too far into it. I think the writers were simply copying the typical family shown in the Lexus commercials.

I get that. We currently have an 11-week old Shar-Pei running around our house, first puppy we have had since 2008. It’s quite a shift from the two older Peis (13 years and 11 years) that have been our only dogs for a few years now.

Last Christmas I sold a (pre-owned) Model 3 Performance to a man buying it for his wife. I was really nervous it wouldn’t go well, I had always thought the idea of buying a car as a Christmas gift was kinda crazy.

FRONT PLATE STATES ARE INFRINGING ON MY FREEDOMS HERE IN NEVADA!

That’s way better than drilling the bumper or having an entirely separate piece for plates or not (Audi, looking at you).    Plus, there are generally tons of items on cars that are held on with 3m tape without issues, it could be done without damaging the paint.  Will Tesla do it right?   Dunno, but I feel like using

It’s annoying if you’re in a no front bumper state and you buy a car from a front plate state.
