I agree with you that a base BMW or Tesla aren’t “luxury cars” in the traditional sense where luxury cars mean fancy materials/fit/finish, but that’s not how “luxury” is defined, really, anymore.

240V has tolerance of 10% when supplied. If you get 220V while paying for 240V it is fine
It’s almost like interior quality isn’t the only characteristic of a “luxury” car.
I think that over the next year or so, the tides will change if other manufacturers can put out the production. Ioniq 5 is a better and cheaper product than a Model 3. Lyriq is better/cheaper than a Model Y. Rivian R1S is better/cheaper than a Model X, etc..
Wife’s next car will be the Polestar 3 for the same reason - better for $70K than anything from Tesla at that price.
They should have found a new supplier years ago. This whole Russia/Ukraine thing has been bubbling for years.
Jason wrote that VW says ID4 will charge with a fast charger from empty to 80% in 7 hours, not 38 minutes
FWIW, I’ve owned 3 i3s, and the last set of tires I bought (a couple years ago) was ~$600 installed at Costco and the previous set lasted 25k miles.
I really like the Ioniq 5 and it is quirky compared to most cars, but as far as quirky EVs go, it’s a beige Camry compared to the BMW i3.
The Union bonus was always garbage. It’s ridiculously high, for one thing. There’s no way Union workers get paid $4500 more per car, or even anywhere close to that.
Most of the expired rebates went to people that didn’t need it.
If the goal is getting people to buy EVs over ICE, then it doesn’t really matter how expensive the cars are. You want people to buy Taycans instead of Panameras, EQS instead of S-Class, etc.
Self-driving is actually GREAT for high performance cars, and not antithetical, IMO... depending on how you use it.
$35k and it was available for 18 months from April 2019 to November 2020.
but it’s long past time to stop pretending that direct sales is any better for the consumer.
It’s all supply-constrained right now. If other automakers could crank their EVs out any faster they’d be eating Tesla’s lunch.
I agree a huge 3-row SUV would sell, too, but Suburban/Escalade sales are not on the same level as trucks, and they still already have two options for 3-row CUVs, which some will chose even if they’d prefer a Suburban/Escalade.
Wow, you got me! When someone says “sphere”, they always mean EXACTLY a perfect, smooth sphere with no elevation changes and an identical diameter at every point.
If you meant the Leaf thing as hyperbole, then OK, my mistake. It’s hard to recognize it’s hyperbole when there are several other even wilder claims in here.
It’s not “celebrating ignorance” to realize someone just doesn’t know what they’re talking about.
