Yep, it’s a great second/commuter car... even day trips. But long trips? 55kW is just not good enough for mainstream buyers, so like you, they’re not going to see it as a primary vehicle and they’re going to set the budget accordingly.

LOVE the look of this thing. The front makes me think of an i3 driving in reverse... and it’s no surprise really since the same person designed the i3 as leads design at Canoo.
Yeah, it really seems hit or miss with EA. Some people seem to have relatively few problems. Some have issues but seem to get it to eventually work, and others get screwed because they can’t get it to work.
Which, I guess is fine, but my 75 mile Leaf does that job just as well for $30k less.
Good info.
Yeah, 4x to perfectly match it. But I think even 2X (600kW) and it’s so close to gas that it doesn’t matter. Like, if you can get 400 miles in 10 minutes instead of 5 for gas, would anyone really care about 5 minutes per 5-6 hours of driving enough to make a car decision based on that? That would be dumb at that point.
Yeah, lots of EV people are like: “BRO, once you’ve driven an EV, you’ll NEVER GO BACK!!!!”
It also helps that charging stations just plain work with it, as opposed to the ID.4
I carried the 120V charger and a 100ft extension cord with my early i3s several years ago, mostly on trips, because they were short range and infrastructure was worse, but I never used it on my most recent i3 or my Tesla (except when camping, so I can run the A/C all night) because there was no need.
Bottom line, if your going to complain about something that’s missing that know one ever uses anyways, than what’s the point?
Honestly, I think 250 miles is fine. More than that is a luxury, but not totally necessary if you have a good charge rate and a good charging profile... which the 250-mile ID.4 does (both rate and profile) and the 260-mile Bolt does not (neither rate nor profile).
Good question.
I wonder how this will compare to the Chevy EUV since it’s not yet out. I think the Chevy is faster, cheaper
Tesla is, as of this writing, valued at $540 billion
My main complaint about the Soul is actually a complaint against Kia and the entire car market, really:
Wrong.
Agreed. It’s just WAY too expensive to be anything more than a stopgap for anyone other than extremely rich people who also have a very, very specific use case.
This isn’t a network meant to be a stopgap.
Exactly. I’d love to hear how they could possibly think this is “not just a stopgap.”
Awesome, congrats! I’m sure it’s a blast!
