Maybe it was just the first episode but I had such a problem with suspension of disbelief that I think I just got soured on it. My thing with Twilight zone was it mixed implausible well.. My problem with Black Mirror, was it felt like the episode was designed to get to a certain point and yet when it stretched to

The problem with managing is envariably that ends up involving some staged physical shenanigans. Unless he can find a way to always slip away, there’s always going to be a demand for him to take a fall.

You know the funny thing was, his whole point is largely terrible.

No. 99% of people are just fine. It’s just that 99% of people is generally trash when it comes to dealing with that 1% that’s basically antisocial on their own. The entire reason rule of law exists, is largely because hundreds of years ago people realized that without police and courts, people would largely just

I don’t have a breast cancer story, but I do remember when I was growing up that I developed a lump on my chest. It was interesting because talking with my Doctor, I largely had no idea that not only does it happen to men and that many men never get it checked out because of the assumption that it doesn’t happen.

The main problem is (as they point out) the unlikely event of no perceived moderate candidates in the race.

But that raises an inherent bias question which is, why exactly the mundane argument doesn’t hold for lawyers, doctors, struggling actors, etc.? Those are in fact mundane jobs with their most exciting moments plucked out for TV/Film. What they do have however is the allure of class and power. Monty Python railed

If by stuck, you mean responding to people responding to me, then sure. It seems a bit silly to ignore everyone making a counterpoint although I admit annoyance is starting to creep in. Heck, I was sorry I had been writing so quickly regarding the boxofficemojo stuff as I came off a bit dismissive, but I was rushing.

Actually you were right on this one. Someone pointed out down thread, I misread box office mojo while running out the door. So you’re right on this one.

I think you and a few more people are reading my comments with far more a political slant than I had when I made them.

You’re absolutely right. I was responding to posts on my way out the door and got sloppy when reading. Kudos.

Yep. And that was a rescue story (and the one the Coast Guard is proudest of) despite them having lots of rescue stories.

But can you do it in the 2010's? You’re also showing me not particularly diverse, but more diverse than 29 dudes on a boat.

I have a feeling I’m going to have to answer this one a number of times (so I’ll do this one and the Dr.’s but then I’m out), but I’d kind of forgotten that movie existed at all. But checking Box Office Mojo, it looks like it only cleared 40 million more than its production budget.

Mainly I just didn’t know that many people that watched that film. Hell, I had to look up that it was The Perfect Storm. And for the record, that film only cleared 40 million more than its production cost which means it probably lost money or broke even which is kind of my point.

I think cynically, the tale while tragic is entirely about blue-collar men and I don’t think anyone in Hollywood thinks that would inherently sell. Even Titanic has at its core a class-based love story brought about by the classes in play in a luxury liner sinking.

The thing I think people don’t get from people like Steinam or Albright is, they watched HRC bashed with the same cudgel Hillary’s opponents on the left are using for a decade and a half by misogynists from the RNC.

Umm, never?

What drives me nuts when I read things like that isn’t that they don’t like Hillary. It’s politics. What drives me nuts is often the lack of context in what is purported to be a feminist issue. When Dems bash the Clinton White House years, they sort of tacitly forget the Republicans had total legislative power for 6

Maybe? I think it’s an interesting question that gets resolved multiple ways. When I was single, I’d probably have been right there with you. The only cost incurred would have been my own and I might make that choice.
