Though unofficial, there was also a Hong Kong remake called 'Black Cat' (which then had a sequel - 'Black Cat II The Assassination of President Yelstin').

There have been a few versions of Sherlock Holmes set in the present ('Return of Sherlock Holmes', '1994 Baker Street" Sherlock Holes Returns', 'They Might Be Giants', 'Return of the World's Greatest Detective', and probably many others) with partners other than John Watson.

I love my six or seven year old cheap to keep flip phone. The only way I would willingly trade it for another phone is if the new phone was also a flip type, like they use in Japan (or at least seem to use in Japan, based on the cop/sf shows I sometimes watch).

Is the character, a doctor, being named Elizabeth Shaw a nod to 'Doctor Who' or just a coincidence?

Now playing

Add to the list 'Konets Vechnosti'* (though not quite top ten material - not to say you would not enjoy the flick if you get the chance to see it) a Soviet time travel movie based on Isaac Asimov's 'The End of Eternity'.

When the Holmes/House connections were pointed out to me I was amazed by how well-done but obvious they were (and really, really embarrassed at missing them).

Nah, the best Holmes on tv is Hugh Laurie.

If you enjoy either tv incarnation of 'La Femme Nikita' the free version of Hulu carries the spy shows 'Iris' and its companion show 'Athena', plus the three episode 'Killer Girl K'. Also, if you like 'CSI' or 'Bones' (or are old enough to remember 'Quincy') you might like 'Sign'.

Plus (I think) it has been used as a plot device on L&O SVU and Criminal Minds.

For whatever reason I have always liked the way Rodney Matthews depicts airships (and his art in general).

Let us not forget Bernard Quatermass, Tom Swift (and his offspring), and especially Ludwig Von Drake and maybe Abby Shuto (or Schuto?).

For some reason I can not edit my question - just to be clear I am not in any way claiming the product works to "detox" as advertised or is healthy in any way.

Question about the rubber-mucoid-polymer-bowel cleaner thing - could it possibly work for a quick, but temporary, weight loss?

Does anyone know offhand if it standard procedure for the White House to request a specific reporter to do an interview? Thanks.

But does she know who John Fogerty is? Possibly has she heard some CCR tracks but attributes them to just John Fogerty as a solo act?

You are absolutely correct, and I agree with everything you have typed, but whether I think that either 'Nausicaa' or 'Cagliostro' are as good as 'Akira' isn't the argument. For better or worse this list includes 'Akira', which opens it up to including manga adaptations. I just think that they stand both as better

If including 'Akira' couldn't a case be made that 'Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind', 'The Castle of Cagliostro', and possibly the 2011 version of 'Tintin'* be on the list? I would argue that both the anime I have listed are both better films and better adaptations than at least a couple of the movies listed.

Looking at the last poster made me thing that another poster, in more of an EC type style, could be a more-than-slightly mad looking scientist/doctor rubbing his/her hands together with the slogan "If you don't use your brain ... we will".
