Forgive me if this was covered, but I noticed in the Grid-It pic there's an external HD. Is that wireless? Is a wireless external HD the only way to use an external HD with an iPad or other tablet? Any recommendations for such a config if wifi is unavailable?

Yeah - we normally only use GDocs for collaboration and then format in Word before submitting a final doc. GDocs has potential but it isn't a complete solution yet.

funny. I've had just the opposite experience. All my portable drives are Seagate. Each is about 3 years old - no issues. All of my desktop WDs failed within about two years of ownership. However, I learned it was primarily the enclosures that were failing and that the drives were fine - for the most part...
