Cities will probably run a lane or of automated cabs for its local citizens - that will only drive within the city and to the airport. But all other cars will be banned. They will still allow vans and such via permit system.. Maybe you can purchase a expensive 1 day pass - if the city wants to make some extra money..

Cops would do the same thing to white kid. Being white won’t save you in a confrontation with police. You have to do what they want - or they might kill you.

Jay Leno’s steam car is pretty cool. It’s like a piece of a steampunk alternate history that never happened. An electric car? Meh. it’s mechanically boring.

Great post. ISIS has a different set of values that we do - and they want to impose those values on the world. The fact they go around driving brand new Toyota Tacoma's should clue in people that the problem is not starving children..

No one is going to flame you. I love cars - live in the burbs now. But I lived in NYC for 15 years. Getting rid of cars would be a god send - and yeah I'd get rid of cabs too.. You could free up entire actual lanes for bikes - and eliminate street parking. NYC would become the best place to live in the USA..

Damn this is the kind of thing that makes you think twice about buying a motorcycle. The amount of people in the world who just don’t give a shit about human life is staggering..

You can't be serious. Most of Manhattan traffic is taxi cabs - and they don't follow a single rule of the road. Not speeding - not lights- they block the box - make illegal u turns anywhere. It goes on and on. Driving around Queens and such is passable..though.

Nah parking in NYC is expensive - its not hard. they have lots of indoor pricey garages. Face it the rich old UES who could never drive before - can now drive with autonomous cars. This means more net traffic.

I am thinking about it - and I am not buying it. The easier driving gets - the more people drive. This article is a great example.. Most people don't drive in NYC because they end up a quivering mess. But now with the autopilot - anyone can do it. Why should the 90 year old lady walk 3 blocks to Fairway when she could

Why? Great size/weight ratio, low cG, very low cost. Outside of gas mileage its one of the best engines in the world - and with modern cylinder shutdown its not terrible on gas either..

Unemployment is a relatively bogus numbers. It’s based on how many people that are actively looking for work. People who don’t want any of the current available jobs aren’t counted. The number to look at is how many people are actually working that are of working age.

I don’t agree at all. Car culture absolutely will die in our lifetime. Lots of reasons why.. but

Tell that to the horses that lost their job.. Taxi/Truck driver is the #1 male occupation in the united states. Thinking that all those people could just do something else is a mistake.. Thinking that business will just hire more people because they are more profitable is a mistake. Tech business like Apple make of

^^I believe it. However people who take long trips (similar to planes) tend to have a lot of people in the car.. and diesel car on the highway.. Well in my experience they do much better then you might guess (EPA rating). I suppose that might come down to ‘cheating’ to some extent though..

Doubt it. Diesel is very efficient on the highway - and planes tend to fly 1000’s of miles at a time. The numbers for like all cars combined are pretty close - with planes ahead. But a diesel car with a few passengers.. well we need someone to do the math but I’d wager the car would come out way ahead.

Sure. But by that standard you might as well shut down all airports and coal plants across the country.. Jet Fuel is very much like diesel and planes don’t have emission controls at all. And coal - well that really does kill millions - albeit slowly and indirectly..

18 billion seems excessive. These guys weren’t killing people - they were making their cars perform better for their customers in real world conditions at the cost of emissions.

Never liked diesels - living in Manhattan for many years - I became relatively convinced the nasty black film that coats the city and quickly darkens any snow is a lot of diesel soot - mostly from trucks that think second avenue is a major highway..

Damn. That is a cool scene.. Nice find. Pretty cool car too..

It has competitors - they are called pickup trucks. The Taco is probably the #1 competitor - but any extended cab smaller AWD pickup is pretty much a direct competitor (Nissan has one too).
