The E90 M3 is actually quite reliable, not just for an M car, but for a BMW. The only real problem it has are the throttle body actuators burn through the plastic gears like every 60k miles or so. It's about a $1k fix at the dealer or a few hundred if you DIY.

Nope, the chevy volt drives as a 100% electric car until the batteries are flat. Then the engine is used to charge them while driving. The engine is never used to power the vehicle.
