Was going to be my response too. If you only want/need one car, need it to be reasonably priced and “nice” the Golf was the best of the bunch in short or long roof forms. Spice it up a notch with a GTI if you really like to drive.

ohhhhh BABY lemme tell you about one of my dream garage all-timers, the Volvo 780 Bertone

Or it’s inspiration. One of my high school friend’s moms had this model and color. We could get about a dozen people in it comfortably.

Any posh wagon: Volvo V60/V70/V90, Mercedes E Class, etc.

God, that Sable wagon is so mundane, i need a shot of espresso just to keep awake after looking at it.

Agreed, when I heard they were going to quit making it in 2018, I drove 200 miles to buy one of the last few new V6/MT coupes in my state. Very happy with my mundane vehicle.

Coming out of engineering school, I had an excellent offer from an HVAC firm that I was seriously considering. They had full benefits, excellent pay, you name it. Along with that, they provided a company car! None of my other offers had that benefit, so I was really excited!

Second Gen Honda Fit Sport - Why I love it:

Minivans. If you ain't gotta tow but need to haul a ton of stuff or people, I can't think of a better way to do it. Also they have hybrids now so you can get 36mpg while driving around 8 people.

The Dodge Journey. I once sold cars at a Dodge lot. These vehicles are uninspiring, less than ergonomic, average fuel efficiency at best, fold away 3rd row that’s cramped for anyone older than a 4th grader, and ALL of them have a cog in the passenger side vent that will fail as soon as the comprehensive factory

The American workhorse. We had two of these back to back (1994 and 2003) and despite my mom’s best effort, neither of them would die. Very few problems, but it drove like a waiting room chair. And that’s okay by me.

Loved those things. Sadly almost all of them have rusted into dust.

Additional +1 to the Accord 6MT coupe that was still sold new until a few years ago. That car really did not make sense on paper, but it is still very cool that they made it.

I think the Camry is a hidden jewel. The SE is actually a nice thing to drive with a great compromise between ride and handling and good options for the price. Add the V6 and suddenly you have the capability of boiling the hides at almost any time the traction control has been shut off. Totally insane such a vehicle

Definitely agree there. I still don’t understand this relentless push away from naturally aspirated v6s in favor of pint-sized turbos. It’s even hitting off-roaders now. Supposedly they are doing this to get better MPG for the CAFE rules but in practice, the gains seem to be marginal if any and in real world use,

Oh, Oh, Oh, Pick me! Pick Me!

Have you no rust where you live? LOL

I absolutely love that the Camry V6 still exists in our downsized and electrified world.

The whistle tips go whoo whoo.
