My resolution every year is to see more live shows. I caught only 5 shows this past year, which is terriblly low considering I'm a childless adult in Los Angeles.
I would add that I've found it helpful to read an actual printed book, as opposed to reading via a Kindle or other tablet. It really does help me fall asleep easier.
I once did a double feature on Xmas Eve of the original Black Christmas and Christmas Evil.
Phantom Limb might have the best melody of any Shins song, which is no small feat.
Exactly this. The movie is almost told exclusively from her point of view, or feels refracted through her broken psyche anyway, so it's all of a piece with her state of mind. It's as if Lynch is redeeming Laura as a character, rescuing her from being a pop culture punchline.
I was more referring to how emotionally harrowing it is, which was pretty unusual for even Lynch at that time. The series has moments like that, as does some of the Dorothy stuff in BV, but not at the level shown here with Laura. The movie starts with a character already living in a nightmare that only gets worse from…
I think it's a masterpiece and one of Lynch's best films. But I also get why some people are turned off by it. It's not an easy movie to watch.
Damn, I was so excited for her take on sci-fi. Oh well, hope she doesn't end up abandoning it completely.
I think he watched All the President's Men this many times last year. It's a great movie, but jeez…
That sort of violence is more disturbing when you're a kid too, being generally more relatable than say, someone being shot. I remember being greatly upset by scenes of people in cars going off cliffs when I was very young. Thankfully I was way older by the time Toonces became a thing!
The premise sounds terrible, but I've loved everything I've seen by Sorrentino so I'm legitimately excited for it.
Indeed. This very site ran a newswire earlier today that it's rumored to be premiering in April.
We love all these shows and think you will too.
No Way Out is awesome
Laughing at the idea of DeVito trying to drink an espresso with those flipper hands.
Very true
I walked out of Falling Down (maybe the worst angry-white-guy movie ever made) and The Lost Boys has not aged well. At least Phone Booth has a great Larry Cohen premise going for it…
I just find him ridiculously overwrought in almost everything. Sometimes this works great because it either fits the tone of the movie (American Psycho) or a bizarrely energetic character (Rescue Dawn). But that energy often doesn't fit, and takes me out of the movie (Dark Knight Trilogy, The Big Short, The Fighter).
They have Spanx for men now so you too can be a Slenderman!
