The "characters that happen to be gay" thing is something I have been complaining about since the heyday of Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss. It's annoying that lots of indies, much less Hollywood stuff, still can't delineate their gay characters beyond their sexuality. And I'm saying this as a straight guy.

Splice is so great. What a twisted, hilarious movie.

This reminds me of the time I started to respond to one of Mohd's firsties with "TA; DR" but I was concerned people would think the "A" stood for Asian instead of Anime.

Which is totally understandable.

It's pretty wild that the scariest character in a Scorsese movie is played by the director himself.

As a misanthrope, I should not be as fond of ecstasy as I am. It's a very fun drug that I am now way too old to take.

I'm a man who likes looking at ladies so this is incorrect.

The greatest advertisement of all time.

GLAVEN!

AKA "getting Entertainment Tonighted"

It was definitely a good glimpse at the wonderfully diverse, inspiring depravity of a big American city, that's for sure.

This paper is now a poor shadow of what it once was, but it had a pretty significant impact on NYC arts culture in the 60s and 70s. In terms of documenting underground and avant garde cinema alone, it's importance to the culture can't be overstated.

Not normally, but I've talked to parents who are wrestling with the fact that their younger kids like Trump. His simplistic language and manner of speaking appeals to them. Essentially, he's on their level emotionally and intellectually, so they have an attachment to him that they wouldn't have with other leaders.

Right? People do u-turns at 4-way stops every day on my way home from work.

That's very disturbing.

The open-ended aspect really helped, and also that a fair number of the crimes were so random, with no clear motivation. Fiction always wants to provide an explanation, so as a kid watching a TV show telling true stories that didn't always provide this made it really impactful.

Certain episodes of Unsolved Mysteries are as scary to me as the scariest horror films I've ever seen. That show was super creepy.

Seconded

I'm laughing at this while also thinking of all the kids who don't want to wear the glasses and are pointing to the president as a reason why they don't need to wear them.

Yeah. it's big enough that I believe it gets taught most places.
