Can there be staples involved?

Show me a dog able to wear pants as depicted in the illustration on the left. Anyone. I dare you.

The list of things better than TMZ is long, my friend.

Noise cancelling headphones, which is perfect bc the little one got a singing Elsa doll from my brother. I considered getting their kids a drum set next Christmas in retaliation, but apparently that is what Santa brought them this year and I think we all can respect his dedication to this particular war of attrition.

...

Excuse me. I believe you mean FREEDOM.

Think it’s not surprise -it’s dehumanizingly *demanded* from many bureaucratic institutions, *especially* for those of certain socio-economic circumstances. (which just really sucks)

Never going to America. Hospitals that resent having to treat you, cops who see shooting you as a first option, politicians who barely count as civilised humans. Scarey country.

Looked up the location on the Google-y Maps.
Deep inner Florida panhandle.
yikes

And why the hell isn't there a white history month? That's so racist!

Cut and paste, God forbid you might express a lucid opinion of your own.

huh?

If I were trying to give "good white people" the benefit of the doubt, I'd tell myself that the things they say are meant for "bad white people"- said in order to let racists know that racism is not normal, it is in fact unacceptable, and that racists are not the majority. After all, this is what I expect of men in

i thought white people wanted Nutella, not cookies!

The fear of becoming a "good white person" is not an excuse not to share this article. Sometimes you are cannot be anything but a "good white person" because there is nothing else you can do in that role and you have to live with the discomfort of people questioning your intentions and your ethics and your presence.

"I don't know which is worse, the unrepentant killer or the man who insists to the end that he meant well."

Uh, it's the unrepentant killer. I mean, I sympathize with a lot of what you're saying here, but let's be super clear: it's much worse when society isn't just oblivious and ashamed about racism but totally on

My husband went on a rant about this the other day — in his job he interviews a lot of grad students and he is irritated by the ease with which people throw the Privilege word around, observing that the ones who use it the most are the most privileged. Well educated and interviewing for a well-paying job. But they are

See, that's the tough question. I don't see how not sharing it helps. But I'm afraid that, if I say "hey fellow white people, you have to read this essay," there's a sense in which I exclude myself from its critique, even if I go through the motions of saying that I'm included in it. Good chance I'm overthinking it.

How is sharing an essay like this "appropriating" it? I thought the standard line here was that the duty of white people who want to help is to "amplify" the voices of POC's... isn't that exactly what sharing this sort of article does?

This is a great piece. One thing I will say, in my experience has someone who is half white and half brown, is that the same system that keeps people of color "in their place" after all of these years is the same one that blinds a lot of white people who mean well. Is this an excuse for their behavior? No, maybe not,
