I’m surprised at how much these things go for!

Sounds like a fairly typical Hyundai dealer to me. Hyundai (and Kia) really need to get a handle on their dealer network. They’ve brought the quality of their product up to an incredible standard (and it’s only getting better!) - but it’s all let down by the shoddy dealership experience. Execs should take some trips

Nope. This was a dying segment even BEFORE good old Covid showed up. The only way Genesis has a hope of selling any decent number of these things is if they can artificially inflate the RV like BMW does with....well, their entire line up. This will give the leasing program some decent numbers...maybe. I can’t see that

re: 2nd Gear, I assume the average German citizen has bailout fatigue by now. The auto industry, green energy, that ridiculous Berlin airport, 27 other EU countries and now the auto industry AGAIN. Non!

No no no! Don’t be giving the light of day to these things! Keep them on the DL please! I’ve been having a look at these recently as a reliable cheap fun little summer car. I want one in canary yellow and even well kept examples rarely break the 5K mark and I don’t want Jalops driving up the value of them.  STOP

This is an incredibly boring answer but seriously, the previous gen Toyota Highlander seats are amazing. Toyota is definitely capable of making a good seat!

Name an American sub-compact car that is better than a Lupo GTI then! Go ahead. I’ll wait.

USUALLY I would say this is someone’s project, therefore it’s not MY project. But the price is right, the body is good, the engine is sweet and it’s an easy (and spacious!) car to work on yourself. The interior definitely needs some work...but only if you’re somewhat inclined to do it, it’s serviceable. NP!

re: Neutral. I’m great! I’m saving hundreds of dollars a month by not commuting. I’m getting an extra 2 hours of sleep a day. I’m growing some tomatoes on my balcony and I’ve perfected my frozen margarita mix. I’m much luckier than most.

Where is ‘here’? I’m from the UK originally and owned an ‘04 1.4 SE (in black!) which I loved! Mashing through the gears on a GTI through the canyons of LA sounds like my idea of heaven!

Only another 5 years to wait for it’s excellent predecessor - the Lupo GTI. I can’t wait to import a Raven Blue one!

I’m confused. Hertz doesnt have 500,000 cars to sell? It leases them? So the issue isn’t just with Hertz’ liability for the leases, it’s the banks that own the cars that Hertz lease? Hertz is in a difficult spot. I used to rent from Hertz fairly frequently pre-Covid and they honestly had a pretty good fleet for

Ah sure it’s a good looking-ish, fun-ish, decent-ish Honda that will last forever with the right maintenance. But the price is absurd. It’s almost brand new Honda Fit money which y’know can also come with a stick. CP.

I would generally agree, if the difference is $500-1000 then maybe it’s worth it since you know the maintenance etc, but the buyout is nearly always absurdly inflated to keep the lease price lower. It works out for everyone. Just pick up the Wrangler on the CPO lot a month later. It’s hardly going to sell immediately

No thanks. At 34, I am approximately 20 years too old to be seen dead IN anything like this. The stock car is appreciably stealthy. That’s the way I like my cars. I could smoke you at the lights but I dont wanna SHOUT about it with a wrap, silly wheels and fake carbon fibre. CP.

The obvious answer is Subaru Whatever, but I get that’s the boring choice for New England and lacking the character required. So my suggestion is a 2005 Merc E500 4MATIC Wagon. It’s only $5k which will leave you the other 5k to cover a couple of months of maintenance! Perfect!.

VW has an amazing array of actually really good SUV’s.....in Europe. The US, just to remind you, is absolutely crazy for SUV’s....gets the woefully underpowered Tiguan and the cruise ship sized (and similarly handled) Atlas. That’s it. We’ve only just got the ‘Atlas Cross’ which is some WEAK SAUCE! Give us the fast Cup

I’m a frequent renter from Hertz. On the whole, I have to say I’ve had a very positive experience with them over the last 3 years. I just find the current situation very sad. I dropped off a rental at LAX on Monday night and the place was a mess, all the cars covered in dust and not a single worker on the lot.

I live in the beautiful hellscape that is Downtown Los Angeles. (Little Tokyo if you’re nasty) - There are quite a few streets that once things are open again, it would be nice reserve for pedestrians and bikes only. Broadway being the main one. They already used to close a couple of blocks for a Sunday farmers market

Europe just does this better. There’s so many tiny city cars with ‘special editions’. I myself owned a Reno Clio Billabong edition with lovely teal coloured seats. However, my nomination is the Fiat Panda 4X4 Steyr-Puch edition!
