She could have been holding a knife because she was barbecuing in the backyard! She could have been holding a knife because she was afraid of the burglar she called them about (yes, mental issues, I know, but...)! IT’S NOT ILLEGAL TO HOLD A KNIFE.

I would love to see the gym/hotel decorations destroyed and he’s all, “don’t worry guys *spidey wink*” and makes a new winter wonderland using his shooters. I would love to see that, I would.

If you have a professor you are probably over the age of 18, and they are more concerned with student teacher relations causing a school other issues. Thats not a pedophile issue. Thats a school ethics issue. So this “wanting it both ways” accusation means nothing. Thrillho, please stray away from and don’t have

Absolutely. And, schools are supposed to be a safe place for students. Not one they need to be worried about forming adult “relationships” in or dealing with adults coming on to them. Which is why there are laws specifically forbidding teacher-student relationships (in addition to other laws).

I don’t think the equality women have fought for was to be able to bang kids. In fact, it speaks a lot that women are so objectified and infantilized and stripped of their own sexual power to the point they are seen as lucky conquests for teenagers and not pedophiles.

we all know it’s different for an older woman and younger man.

I’m the mother of two boys. If they’re in high school and a teacher propositions them and I find out I’m going straight to the police. It’s not just about the age difference. There’s also a real power imbalance.

I mean, you seem kind of unwilling to acknowledge any fair points from the other side, like the fact that the NY school system needs to consider the good of the community first and that they are correcting an established diversity problem. You can be upset about the “headaches” of relocating while also acknowleding

Admittedly I’m arguing from absence. I can see no particular evidence, apart from her joining a women’s strike in March, that she has any particular stance on labor at all, which suggests that she’s never come out publicly with anything, at the very least. He, by contrast, has, even before the last writer’s strike.

Except that literally all of those people were there in the streets with them. You’re just pretending not to see. Ever heard of Bayard Rustin? We don’t HAVE to hate each other. We’re on the same fucking side.

You can’t respectfully disagree and then call the ideas “foolish and simplistic” without any backup. You’re just using the fact that “some” people on the left have exhibited misogyny and racism to totally dismiss any real consideration of the idea that capitalism is the root cause of a great many of our society’s

Activism and peopel who were loud enough in the face of opposition that nobody could help but listen. I promise you it wasn’t Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s “evolving” views on gay marriage that got the ball rolling there.

Yeah, cause the way it’s working out now has been so great. We’re literally one supreme court justice away from Roe v. Wade being overturned and gay marriage being illegal again, but no, this is working out great, no need to address and change the underlying system. How old is Ginsburg again?

I don’t think they come second, that’s my whole point. I think that economics are at the roots of many of these issues, and if you address them as linked you stand a better chance of solving them, rather than sitting around and praying that nobody overturns Roe v. Wade in the courts.

Avow - to assert or confess openly.

I don’t want to shrug off everything she does. I like a lot of what she does, I just think we need to be clear-eyed about who we’re holding up as lions of liberalism these days, especially with regard to what we can expect from them when their status as financial elites is threatened.

Jon Stewart is an avowed socialist. Which I take to mean someone who can blend liberal cultural ideology with real ideas for economic change, which is where I, as a Marxist, believe that real change (be it racism, misogyny) can really be dealt with at the roots. I don’t see the latter from people like Sam Bee,

I think I’m trying to explain why she isn’t perfect to someone who was tottering on the edge of saying she was. I expect nothing in particular of her. I mean, you’re asking why I expect her to be perfect when the comment I was replying to began “Sam Bee is the fucking best.”

Is that really the analogy you want to go with? The “But Hillary?” As though maybe, if we hadn’t paid a little more attention to the But Hillary’s earlier on we might have avoided our current mess?
