The only way I can see around that is to do what Caterham do. Technically sell their cars as low-volume kits, but pre-assemble them before sale.

Now playing

Judging by his comment about keeping TVR in British hands, the owner sounds a bit too patriotic to put an American V8 in.

Damn you for reminding me of this car, and damn Jaguar for not making a limited run.

I reckon a Montreal would be my favourite.

Great idea. Love these cars.

"But a modern engine, modern wheels and modern suspension? Why not just buy a recent car then?"

Are you, in all honesty, suggesting someone should swap an SBC into an E-Type?

Best QOTD/AOTD I've read in ages. Lots and lots that resonate with my experiences, dghdfghffdnbyyfg and Vertec especially.

I'm going to have to disagree wholeheartedly when you say the styling of this one is an improvement over the first generation.

Sweet. Is there any info knocking around about this chap's GTV? Would love to hear more.

You know that feeling when your heart jumps into your mouth?

One word.

I really like Nivas too. They're just honest little 4x4 workhorses, and it'll let me tick off another country in my 'drive a car from every car producing nation' bucket list.

Probably the one we've just bought.

They're very useful for keeping the power at its peak, but they're also much more lossy than other types of transmission. You get constant power, but it's not quite as high a peak at the wheels.

I definitely agree with the Mk2 Jag as an unlikely racecar, but not as unlikely as you'd think. It was definitely the M5 of its day.

Faster than an I6 Mustang...

Nice choices. I also forgot the Cobra replica, but rather than doing a 289 or 427, I'd put in either a Jaguar AJ6 or a BMW I6 (M54B30 or a BMW M30, not sure) and make it an AC Ace replica.

This is what I hope to do as I meander through life, albeit with less of a budget. Starting with my Spitfire, I've got a long list of builds that I want to do, some more ambitious than others.

I must say, I'd never actually buy a Singer 911, or anything of the same ilk like an Eagle Speedster, but they serve as perfect inspiration.
