VW hasn't had major reliability issues since the mk5 series of Golf and Jetta. The Passat, to my knowledge, escaped that one pretty well. The mk4 had its share of issues as well, but the mk6 series is running strong.

I think you'll see it happen, VW would be crazy not to take advantage of the mega economy car market we have going here. I would love to see the Polo and maybe even the Up! make it here.
