“the one thing they have in common is that are all needy narcissists.”
I will find and I will netflix this thing. I LOVE Korean TV.
I love the whitewashedOUT hash tag. I love seeing that kind of activism I’m glad they are speaking up and I will speak up with them as well. John Cho is very hot btw
Love all these wacky word vomit comments!
I’ve read your entire comment, and the only thing I got out of it is that Superstar Machine is even more sexist than the article depicted. Thanks for the insight!
This feels like all the stories we’ve read about how Scientology is run. It’s fricken creepy, because both are filled with people who are in creative careers, like entertainment and personal support activities. It’s like he’s taking a leaf from how David Miscavige has evolved that cult.
i wonder if princess superstar was or is their tom cruise.
I have no doubt that these meetings are hosted at Museum of the Moving Image a) to give a sense of legitimacy (implying there’s an affiliation) and b) because the museum’s target audience includes Scherick’s targets. My question is: HAS THE MUSEUM BEEN INFORMED OF THIS?!?! This could be a PR nightmare for any museum!
This was great journalism. I was convinced to go to a LandMark Forum meeting by a boyfriend years ago and it scared the hell out of me. This totally brought me back. I’m so happy I’m where I am in my life now. :)
It sounds like a club formed by middle school girls.
The hairs on the back of my neck stand up when reading this kind of stuff. Dealt with crazy cult-people in person, so there’s this part of me that’s screaming “RUN!” at multiple points throughout the story.
Ugh, that horrible LA corporate double-speak is so vomit-inducing every time I read it. “I feel like that question doesn’t feel productive at this current energy level”. What I’m saying is, I’m glad I don’t work at that office anymore. I feel like America is going down a dark path with this equivocating, nonsense…
Woah! This was a really interesting and seriously long piece. This is a minor takeaway but as I near the end of my thirties I find myself less sympathetic to people in their 20s that are lonely. Better to be lonely now than when you are 40! Imagine what happens in NYC when you end a long term relationship you had in…
Desperate people prone to magical thinking and a sense that they’re entitled to happiness are alway prime prey for self-aggrandizing con men like this. See also the prospective GOP candidate for President.
How someone even hears the phrase “International Hot School” and doesn’t collapse on the floor laughing is beyond me. Dude can’t even name things right.
The sad thing is to imagine people so damaged that they fall for any of this for more than 1/2 a second.
Great piece, Anna. Thanks for doing it.
What a fantastic, fascinating article!!
