Just seems like a very weak case compared to all of the other atrocities. The reason I think Serena went down for this was because they wanted to figure out how to implicate her.

The Ceremony happens once per month, meaning they change it to 20 times a month. Marthas would have to be certified infertile
I don’t view it that way at all. Gilead was born out of literalist interpretations of the Bible, not America.
What I meant was on the mountainous cake of all of Gilead’s atrocities, this strange Serena sting for having Nick sire her child is not the most delicious icing. I mean, they would’ve had Serena on a whole slew of terrible actions, misdeeds, and crimes. Plus, I’m pretty sure June loves Nick. They made wild, passionate…
Our problem is we’re trying to use logic to predict Gilead’s next move. Gilead has never operated within any rational notion of logic.
Unintended consequences - because 52 children were removed from Gilead, the handmaids will be required to perform the Ceremony between shorter intervals. Fertile Marthas (and quite possibly Wives) will be conscripted. Security will be stepped up. More guardians on the streets. Marthas and handmaids involved in the…
I really wish the reviewer would stop writing these ballads. We go back to the initial problem; Gilead’s Female Question and Final Solution. Before all of this nonsense began, the women are led into slaughterhouse facilities, stripped, and fast-walked to transport compartments. The whole thing smacks of Nazi Germany,…
I don’t think of it as a Civil War, because I view Gilead as a terrorist insurgency, and not Americans. Indeed, in this episode, they refer to Americans as separate entities.
Considering the time elapsed between June’s discovery of her overdose and the time the Martha finds her, she would’ve had a shot if her stomach were pumped. It was the writers who let her die.
I have, and I didn’t limp. You shut up.
The actress and her performance was very much like a real person. Amidst these grotesque caricatures, she behaved very much as a real person would behave, regardless of the story or the show. She deserves an Emmy.
Subliminal imagery?
High-end grocery stores are packed to the gills with good quality, fresh and prepared foods. Did you see the carrots? This looked like a supermarket with no inventory. Reminded me of Soylent Green with $200 a jar strawberry jam.
Commanders without wives are issued ... new wives!
Have you seen the selection? It looks terrible and it’s more than obvious Gilead has no resources - if all they have is a small handful of meats. Gilead is dying.
Like Serena, he did not know or understand the monster he had created.
Who would you be (or assert yourself to be) to grant him that right?
It could be like a Friends or Happy Days/Family Ties-style flashback season!
I knew she was laughing. She’s laughing because Gilead was so distracted with the arrest of Fred and Serena that Commander Refrigerator-Humper’s “disappearance” was put on the back-burner. I laughed with her when I realized that Gilead is not America, and never would be. Gilead is not America. Gilead is what we fight…
