The show is absolutely about rape. The book was Atwood’s reaction to the rise of reproductive rights and birth control, the pill and it’s consequences. While the book was a slim “false” memoir with interesting talking points, the show is a lurid piece of exploitation about men with machine guns pushing girls around.
