How many Odettes could remain in this society? I think they rounded up all the remaining Odettes. Rule no.1 in Gilead: “No Odettes!”

It’s implied, in the book, through Offred’s recollections (as she recognized Serena from seeing her early morning religious weekend shows that came on before cartoons) that Serena was instrumental in the religious aspect of the Gilead campaign.
I found it a bit creepy that Canada (i.e. “Little America”) uses a color-coding system to identify the dead. Black file cabinets are the adults who died. White cabinets are the children who died.
According to the most definitive map made (based on the book), Gilead’s borders extend from Maine down to Maryland, North to South, and then West to Indiana. The Colonies (which are the areas nuclear missiles were dropped, thus the irradiated soil) are bordered from Southern Illinois into the deep South extending to…
In a weird, sick way, it’s progress! It’s like, “Hey! Why are we only enslaving and raping 72% of our population? Let’s get everybody pregnant.” Gilead put race past them to fight the existential threat. The fact that racism continues to be the main talking point of 2017-2018 for the viewers means we have not moved…
It is absolutely about class, and the fact that women have it far worse than men only points to the convenience of Gilead’s argument and ultimate mission, which is to re-populate the species. It is their only means to combat what amounts to an existential threat, but killing humanity in an attempt to save humanity…
“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”
This also flies in the face of logic and reason. Other than the subjugation of women, the “educated” women are turned into prostitutes, and medical doctors are summarily executed? This is a waste of material and knowledge. So much effort is expended programming and conditioning handmaids, you would think the same…
Am I to understand that the $250,000 she received for her surrogacy was stolen by the Republic of Gilead?
I wish people watching the show would stop doing this, would stop reading into it ideas not meant to be put forth. This show is not about a war on women, or a war against any specific group. It’s a war against humanity. It’s men with machine guns pushing women around yes, but also pushing everybody else around. This…
These aren’t really recaps. Just observations, remembrances, and editorializing.
I would just like to respond with two points. When my wife was pregnant with our daughter, I was ignored by her doctors. Any questions or concerns I had were either ignored or dismissed. They would not look me in the eye, and instead looked at my wife, as though I were a stranger, an interloper, an infidel in their…
The opening scenes of this episode were some of the most disgusting, repulsive, manipulative and cloying I had ever witnessed (and I’ve seen Bloodsucking Freaks, mind you).
