Lower the speed limits?!? Allow me to off this ironclad Homer Simpson rebuttal: But millions would be late!

Get yourself at least west of West Chester, stay in the hillier areas. Lancaster has too much traffic and the farm country tends to make for a lot of straight/grid roads. Anything north of the turnpike and west of Valley Forge is great, and then basically 100% of all roads west of the Susquehanna, which is where I

Yeah, I have seen the rare State Police on a back road in PA (I think 3 times in my most recent 8 years here), and I’m betting it’s due to locals complaining. So you still need to use some judgement about areas that might make a good speed trap, but they are also usually proximate to a town or houses at least.

I do relish the rush I get when driving back to Philly, so I know what you mean! You need to get at least into upper Bucks or western Chester or Montgomery counties to free yourself of traffic and over development. From those points north and west, it’s amazing.

A roundabout is mathematically way more efficient than a 4-way stop in terms of delay, emissions, noise, and safety. I drive through several roundabouts in the Maryland/DC area and northern Virginia and Richmond on a regular basis and have never seen someone stop at them, much less stoppage on an epidemic level.

Southeast is also by far the most heavily trafficked, and I would agree has the worst average condition by far, but again, that is more the town and borough centers and heavily congested areas. Things in the country are generally fantastic.

My god, how can Ford still even entertain the existence of Lincoln? Smother that brand ASAP.

But if we take that attitude that some may never learn we’ll never make progress. Too many idiots still can’t figure out a 4-way stop. Roundabouts are just so much more efficient and proven much safer for preventing serious accidents. I actually got to design the (allegedly) second one installed in Virginia back in

And the Turnpike speed limit is 70 and the cruise at 77 is fast enough and I’ve gone by plenty of cops with no issue. I grew up outside Philly, then spent 20 years in VA, and moved back here about 10 years ago. And I agree, PA’s roads - outside of many townships that take a beating and don’t get PennDOT funding - are

+1 for roundabouts!

For me - as a civil engineer working in transportation - it’s our undying need to put in a traffic signal or a 4-way stop where a roundabout is really the perfect solution. Do any amount of driving in Europe outside the main city centers, and you almost never come to a stop, you just flow from roundabout to

Older Millhouse is always so creepy.

I think the logic is as gas is more expensive, EV’s become more appealing/competitive, and that demand results in more and better EV products, and at price points the market can support ($20K to $30K for useable, mass market non-compliance cars). And there is a feedback loop of more products = greater economy of scale

3rd gear: I live in an extremely walkable and vibrant small town, Carlisle, PA in fact which many here may know for our numerous cars shows - this was the downtown this past Saturday, 300+ Corvettes!

I think it was a Planet Money podcast I heard that discussed this system of leasing trucks and then repo’ing them when the rigged system collapsed on the driver. It sounded...criminally insane. Maybe this explains why 99% of the truckers on I-81 in PA drive like total assholes, I guess they are mad at the world, and

Bastards probably stole his Creedence tapes, too.

People are too emotional on here and have never read an accident report in their lives. Victim-blaming is not a thing in accident investigations, but any action taken or not taken is fair game in deconstructing what happened and why. It’s not personal, and frankly if we want safer transportation, these issues must be

Given the distance the truck closed behind him and the speed differential, the truck was clearly not following the Accord for any distance at the speed limit, so any issues of the Accord’s speed are moot.

I think in the world of accident investigation they might call the lack of turn signals a contributing factor. I read a lot of aviation accidents because I work in that field, and even if a pilot flies into a flock of seagulls and crashes, they will get hit with “a contributing factor was the pilot’s failure to see

I did a 300 mile trip for work today in my 2016, from PA to VA and back through a stop in MD. MPG read 36.1 when done. That car is comfy, quick, and spacious while still being small.  CarPlay integration is seamless to pass the miles. It does everything at 9.5/10 level.
