I think in photos the Supra looks a bit overstyled, but in the flesh I think they look fantastic, and are much smaller than I imagined, which I like. Not a fan of the C8 look at all myself. During the Indy500 my brother texted me to ask what the “fugly” pace car was, so maybe it’s just genetic ;-)

Very true, and now she can feel better about all the climate damage she does flying to Hawaii 5 times a year. But I guess don’t judge her trips, only she can judge others.

Or the Toyota one where a guy slow-motion passes an RV on a blind mountain road and a deer jumps out and the car brakes.  He never should have attempted that pass in such terrible conditions to begin with, the deer was the least of the issues there.

With diamond precision I would imagine.

We sold our 2012 JSW back, I miss the ever loving crap out of that car. It just devoured highway miles. The older chassis was not quite as solid as the MQB platform that came after, but man, it was the perfect car. They gave us $18k on a 6 year old car with 146k miles we paid $27k for, so we just could not say no.

Hmm, my GTI still fees totally solid after 4.5 years. I run PS4S tires in the summer and on track, so the chassis gets a good workout, but I don’t have a single rattle or squeak. The panoramic sunroof on our old Sportwagen did squeak badly in the winter, but I’ve not seen that at all with the “normal” sunroof on

The current generation 2015+ seem to be on a new level, but my brother had a 1996 and a 2005 Golf, so I hear you on the fear-front. Still, our 2012 TDI wagon went 6.5 years and 146,000 miles with zero issues. I saw the Mazda 3 comment - my best friend has a manual 2017 and it is a fantastic car too, feels way more

Matt, if you are reading this, listen to me, a fellow Doylestown native (grew up right downtown and mom still lives there). I drive a 2016 GTI. It has been bulletproof through 73,000 miles, and that includes numerous track days. The ride is extremely smooth, and never harsh, and I know PA roads. It is sometimes too

Good summary. I think most folks who can afford these cars already have a tax liability of at least $7,500 so it’s a non-issue.  I’m there, and I used to think our next car would be an EV...until we test drove a Miata RF this weekend.  So now, probably the next-next car we buy will be an EV.  Maybe.

Came for “shockingly janky”.  Leaving satisfied.

Classic.

Wow, Gary Gulman! I had never hear of him until I heard a story on him on This American Life. It was hilarious, a little sad, and very inspiring.

Very true. I suspect there are probably primary returns somewhere, it’s amazing the amount of background clutter ATC picks up, and likely there is something on the tapes somewhere, and if they REALLY want to find this guy, they probably could. Or more likely just wait till he posts it on YouTube.

I know you don’t want to go toe-to-toe with me on Bird Law, but suffice to say, birds can fly wherever the hell they damn well please.  Except over Dick Cheney’s house, it’s the P40 of the bird world.

A bridge will accelerate wind above and below its deck. 150' is not a lot of clearance in a small plane (for a non-stunt pilot). A quick vertical draft could have sent him into the water or the bridge deck. I agree that deck would have shrugged off a small plane, but they sure as hell would close the bridge to inspect

Low-level flight rules are different for helicopters- they get more flexibly for many operations. And likely here they are on approved site-seeing flight plans, law enforcement or medical, etc. I don’t have a current SFO sectional, but the GGB appears to be outside/below SFO’s controlled Class B airspace. But

Well, this is the Land of the Free, where with so many laws, essentially everything is illegal in some way. However, I am a pilot, and this is damn-yes illegal as it violates minimum separations in VFR flight. ATC will back-track this guy’s transponder trace and find out where he came from, and he’ll eventually get a

I owned a brown, 1980 Celica GT for about a year in college in the 90's.  It was rock solid too, and while not “fast”, was a ton of fun and the hatch would swallow anything.  Also a bonus, the Blizzard of ‘96 provided weeks of snow covered roads ripe for donuts.  I could spin that car in endless circles.  I went in

Truckasaurus!

This is pretty much my position too. My knowledge of one product being equal to another, I’ll buy the one I associate with a racing sponsorship, at a minimum to thank them for making possible something I enjoy. I’m also a fan of professional cycling and treat it the same way. In fact, I consolidated my online
