Yeah, that scene brought a lump to my throat too. Beneath all the posturing, Charlie is still a sweet guy who truly loves Marnie.

No, totally, I feel ya. I think maybe I was projecting a little based on my experience. The writing was subtle, and certainly many things could be implied. Lena said in the "Inside The Episode" video that it was based on someone she knew IRL, which makes it even sadder.

Sure, but that can't mean it doesn't tell us other things about the character, no? It was put in there for a reason. Other than having Marnie going around New York barefoot.

I'm not the biggest fan of the "I'm the child" line either, but I did love the "You act like you want me to come see you, but you don't know how to even have a conversation with me" part. I know a lot people hate Marnie the most, but I am a true Jessa hater. This was the one of the very few times I had empathy for

Are you being deliberately obtuse? It's a completely normal reaction, but that's not what Charlie was projecting himself as. I'm not actually trying to say what "tough guys" are supposed to do, which I think is pretty clear in my comment.

Lena talks about it in the "Inside the Episode" video. Apparently she wrote it in a kind of a fever dream, a while after watching the movie.

This season in general is turning out great.

Yeah, I think he was too ashamed to admit that he was fired. It's understandable. The suicide thing also kind of explains him, going out for pizza and then coming back and being to Marnie like "I've never loved you, this is bullshit, that's it" and then leaving.

Did you miss the part about his father offing himself? He probably was fired from his company, and he was too ashamed to say so, so instead he was all like "Oh you know that life isn't for me" and all that bullshit.

Well, I just straight up refuse to believe it was Chris O'Dowd.

Marnie just low key rolling her eyes whenever Desi started crying was so fucking funny. And Desi : BYE BITCH

I think Marnie sensed that something was wrong, but chose to ignore it to kind of keep the delusion going. But that smug little speech to the lady at the store. That was SO Marnie. Ugh.

Yeah, I mean. The girl he was in love with repeatedly stomped on his heart, and along with his best friend, kind of put it on him not being man enough. His tech company failed, and then his father killed himself. It's not shocking to assume he started out doing drugs to just stop feeling disoriented and vulnerable,

Charlie's character took such a dark turn. It made me feel so sad, and also angry at Marnie and Ray, who always called him a "pussy" or asked him to "man up". He did try to, with his tattoos and trying to be tough, but you could tell he wasn't really, when that guy pulled out a gun. I was married to an addict, before

This was the best episode of Girls so far. So devastating. I'm a feeling a little smug because so many people were bitching and moaning about a Marnie centric episode and it turned out so wonderful.

No, I feel ya. Men are men, after all. Sometimes they're just unaware of the racism + sexism deal that women of colour are given - in the entertainment industry, in this case.

I have never met someone who puts so much effort into comment trollery.

Ravi-Blaine > Ravi-Major. Looking forward to Ravi-Rita SO MUCH. Ravi is the best.

This season has been KILLING it. Grandma Huang in traffic, god bless.

Totally. Brian, Trent, Walter, Blondie…they're all hilarious and they're weird but not too actor-y. I love Eddie's friends.
