I can see situations where it is meant as a benign compliment, as some commenters have pointed out (especially from a close and trusted friend).

@leslieannelevine: As someone who struggled to make female friends for a stretch in my life, you have my sympathies.

I had never heard of Ms. Bembenek before so this sentence kind of blew my mind:

@RocketFool: I enjoyed reading your rant. It kills me that we seem to need to learn lessons about tolerance inch by inch or group by group.

I'm celebrating Coming Out Day by loudly proclaiming that pretextual tolerance is Not Enough.

Oh, Jez. I think we can and should do better than this. I honestly don't even know what this post is trying to do, other than bait bad taste.

I know this is a great internet video because I watched it with slack-jawed fascination and I feel worse about myself upon the conclusion.

@lolita7b3: I think you're on to something here. And I'd add that I think the "CAUGHT ON TAPE" aspect is also what is forcing some of the Hollywood moneygrubbers out of their inertia.

@lil gaywad: Mmm, that was some quality angst. Loved it. And it introduced me to Patti Smith's "Pissing in the River," so excellent teen discovery all around.

@monkey_biz: I like your style. However, I'm not sure I really want your Memo to Men to work because atrocious spelling can serve to set off my alarm bells.

@Anna: Thank you for the explanation. The only thing I could come up with was that this was exhibit A in the case of the Mysterious Assassination of Oscar the Grouch.

Mel Gibson better not be officiating my Bat Mitzah.

Ah, mystery solved. This list was written by Joel Stein. Joel Stein is a snide twerp. He is singularly unfunny and mean-spirited.

@Slatka: That was a beautiful comment. Thank you for contributing to the communal internet blessing.

@itsonreserve: She's married to Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson on NBC's Parks and Recreation).

@sequined: I'm pretty sure she is openly bisexual. She talked about it in an interview with Details. Which doesn't mean she can't come out, I suppose. Just doesn't strike me as cover material.

@AspasiaTheLayza: Word. It was godawful. I thought it was astonishingly bad. And if it touches on the hot mess that was left of the Conspiracy plot by the finale, it could only get worse.

@Pugnacioun: You sound awesome. I'm a little amazed at how one comment can capture the convergence of so many of my own nerd interests. (I love the word "uterus." Ovaries is also a favorite.) Thanks for saying it so well.

What I do with carbs in the privacy of my breadroom is between me and my Flying Spaghetti Monster.
