Passersby Were Amazed by the Unusually Large Amounts of Blood.

I’ve been reading the AV Club since it was just in print (e.g., “Justify Your Existence”) and haven’t logged in in a while. I’m logging in to say that I loved your reviews and your stewardship of the film section in the wake of the exodus. I’ll read your reviews wherever they go, even a substack called C+ C+ Dowd.

I can’t find the article but after The Dissolve died Carles (Hipster Runoff) wrote a post-mortem in (I think) Motherboard. Essentially unless you’re WSJ or NYT, you can’t survive on display advertising as a boutique site anymore; everything had to scale to content aggregation volume to get clicks (backed up with

Katya?

I also grew up in D.C. (in 84!) and squealed like a little girl at the Commander Salamander reference.

Sorted for e’s and wizz.

That bad take, only you tried to make it. Everybody else want best quality. You, you’re thinking different. Waverly made best quality take, you made worst, because you have worst quality heart. You have style no one can teach. Must be born this way.

I was rolling with it but then the body switch hit and Tina Fey’s voice was coming out of his body at the barber shop and I was a little ehhh....

Several moments in this, particularly the Astral Plane, felt like a low key homage to Fantasia and those old musical education films Disney used to make.

I wish CASSEROLE had signed off with your screename.

This milk could be our milk.

He’s Liam Neeson, that’s his name.

Dad!

I think it had multiple layers and wasn’t just one thing, but I picked up a critique of the limits of lean-in feminism and even performative allyship.

It’s very basic cable. As someone who liked Prometheus I was down for Ridley Scott’s mixture of ancient aliens and nihilism (with a little Solaris thrown in), but it’s more of a soap opera (the whole season would be better with 1/5th as many closeups).

I mean that goes for the books too. AFFC is my favorite, but it’s just spinning out into worldbuilding/soap opera.

Watching a movie so personal and so well made and then thinking that she was chasing clout or rebranding is strange to me.

I don’t know poly mechanics enough to know how people deal with falling for someone maybe more than your primary partner, but he 100% sounds like he is in love and would trade everything else for this guy (as Dan noted, the other two are barely sketched out). I guess I’ve seen enough gay couples open up and then

Hey girl, heyyyyyy

I rewound that part of the tape over and over. It’s like a weird little piece of Bach.
