AV Club even did a pre-release write-up of Aimee Mann's great new record, but never actually got around to reviewing it. As ever, the AV Club music section is the most easy one to ignore at the site.

This season was sort of like reading the weekly reviews here and seeing the mostly unfulfilled running joke about the Mail Robot. The Americans is a great show that has already secured its well-earned place in Peak TV history, but Season Five's stage-setting and glacial build for the final Season Six payoff were not

"We can't all be as attractive as you, Elizabeth."

Major, I think you've earned a bump in rank past Lieutenant to full Colonel!

I'm from Kansas City, and even most of Kansas City didn't care about the Kings, sad to say. But yeah, why would anybody from the eastern time zone care about the L.A. Kings?

Yup, potatoes. I thought they looked like overcooked old potatoes.

If I in any way implied that Ms. Holden is a spy, it was my mistake. I have no idea how they're going to utilize her in the plot exactly, but my point was only meant to speculate that I can't imagine it not being consequential to the plot. Susan Misner was fine as Stan's wife (and better when she got a storyline of

Yes. I had to re-read the review 3 times to verify that there was no reference to the character's identity, or its significance to this season. I can't imagine that they got her in service of an innocuous, anybody coulda done that plot.

I enjoyed Season Four of Orphan Black as much as ever, though I am a little relieved that they're wrapping it up after five seasons (and on their own terms). Of course Tatiana Maslany, the best surprise of this year's surprisingly pretty good Emmy awards.
And I'm a little shocked that Outlander hasn't gotten more

I've been holding off on diving into Quarry simply because I expect it to be both (at least) pretty good and correspondingly a crushing disappointment as compared to the magnificence of Banshee.

Same here. I can't even understand why it got a shorter season order, and I so hope this season pushes it into a position of more prominence on the CW (thereby my contradiction in terms for today).

Yeah, it's maybe silly to mention it in the same breath as Halt and Catch Fire, but I'll do it to mention that it has had a somewhat similar jump in quality from a ho-hum Season One into a pretty good Season Two and a genuinely engaging Season Three.

Amen to Happy Valley. Still awaiting word on whether they can talk Sarah Lancashire (brilliant!) into Season 3 or not?

No Noah episodes are automatically, no matter how much I admire Dominic West the actor, better episodes. But geez, Cole just can't help himself.

1) A pretty great episode.
2) I loved the look Lip gave Fiona after her toast to Frank and Monica.
3) About as good an ending to Ian/Mickey as you could expect. And I loved both actors in closing it out.
4) Gender inequality issues aside and William H. Macy as established star to plant the series on versus Emmy Rossum

Yeah, I'll miss it too, but honestly the narrative has started running out of momentum (though Adelaide Kane generally rises above the mire). They've split Mary from the French court (and the awesome Megan Follows) seemingly for good, the coterie of supporting female friends have all been scattered (or killed), and

This was a terrific finale, and thank you! AMC for announcing that the show will get a Season 4 to wrap this story up in. I can't unpack everything I think about this finale yet (and Giants-Cubs), but I wanted to say thanks Dennis Perkins for your excellent reviews and for making coming here something I looked forward

Terrific news. The show will certainly be on a ton of Top Ten lists in a couple of months, and it's a great relief that the story will be ending on something closer to its own terms, and not suddenly at 11 PM tonight.
