S4 didn't suck but there were a handful of C+/B- episodes, especially near the start. It redeemed itself at the end and S5 brought it back to S3 form for 85% of the year.
They executed that concept much better than The Office did in the post-Super Bowl episode with Jack Black and Cloris Leachman.
Steve Buscemi directed this episode, but he's done that before. I know I mentioned this a few weeks ago in a comment, but I read somewhere that they got a new Director of Photography or something this year, which explains why the show looks different, more cinematic.
