Thank you for bringing up Maximum Overdrive. The often overlooked slapstick horror of when AI attacks, soundtrack by ACDC which in itself is hilarious.
“You’ve never seen me panic. When I panic I make this face.”
How about “The Birds” moment when he turns around to follow the single drone and sees the huge flock of drones in his room? The two things I love about Muls? He has the best reaction expressions and he bows to no one. Wham! Down it goes with swing of the bat. And Sculs with her lack of surprise saved a raised eyebrow…
uh is it too rash to already say this might be my favorite episode of the whole series? my god this was a delightful and fascinating concept of a bottle episode. and just flawlessly executed. A+
I agree, part of it seemed to be a playful indictment of how much time people spend on screens even when they’re with one another, but it also reinforced how naturally comfortable Scully and Mulder are with one another, how they don’t need to make awkward conversation to enjoy one another’s company. That bit where…
Oh, Mulder. I love that even though he was 99% sure he was saving their lives, he really, really hated coming off that tip.
You completely missed my point. And anyway, Doggett filled in for Mulder because Duchovny rightfully sued Fox for selling the X-Files to syndication and video without paying him. If you agreed with the reasons behind the writers strike, you’d probably also agree with Duchovny.
He also had a great multi-episode guest spot in Silicon Valley, which was the first time I’d seen him in at least a decade.
It felt like the actor and the script played it like the sheriff could teeter over into country bumpkin cliche at any point, but then he never did, and that was great.
There was a moment there where he almost became they protagonist, and Mulder and Scully were the asshole FBI agents who were obstructing his legitimate investigation. It was kinda neat.
He’s known them for over 20 years, he wasn’t worried that they’d fail. Remember, too, that if Skinner is a crypto-team member, Kersh is a crypto-crypto team member. He’d rather they toed the line, it’d make his life easier, but he believes in right and wrong.
Our pseudo-Skinner quote was: “They’re breathing down the line on my ass that you keep crossing, Mulder!”
The highlight of this episode for me was the Mud Lick sherrif. It’s been 11 seasons and 25 years, and this was the first time that one of the law enforcement characters on the show seemed plausible. He’s helpful to a couple of federal agents, asks and answers relevant questions, then calls them on their bullshit when…
That’s for sure. You couldn’t really do a full season or show of just Darin Morgan episodes, because they are all about puncturing the underpinnings of the show. (And for all that the fandom hates Chris Carter, sometimes understandably, they forget that he doesn’t seem to care that one of the best-loved writers for…
People forget that Darin Morgan’s episodes wouldn’t work nearly as well if he didn’t have the rest of the episodes to bounce off of.
Mitch Pilleggi is 65 years old. You don’t think he looks good for his age?!?
Oh, I don’t know... the years have been pretty kind to Gillian Anderson. If Duchovny lost about 15-20 pounds I think he’d be looking pretty good too.
Gotta say, Haley Joel Osment has grown up to be quite a good character actor.
I think Kersh was telling them “Find ya boy and drag him home before I have to fuck him up”.
