No one would give a shit that the nomination field would be dominated by men. Seriously, you think studio executives are going to say, "Huh, there aren't a lot of female nominees in the acting categories this year. We'd better change that! Quick, call every screenwriter we know and get them in here so we can work on

Absolutely, there is no question that if it were a single field of actors of either gender, the men would dominate it year after year. If there were more and better parts written for women, then the single-field idea might have some merit.

Laugh if you want, but I would have been completely okay with "Ted" earning a visual-effects nomination. The bear was a pretty impressive creation.

I'm happy to see that someone else loves the costumes in "The Five-Year Engagement." Those sweaters? Brilliant. It would have been a completely worthy nominee.

He just joined this year. But I believe he's still not a member of the writers' guild.

Absolutely, his direction there was terrific. Wright is practically the anti-Tom Hooper in the sense that he took a much-loved property and completely reimagined it in a way that's highly cinematic but still faithful to the spirit of the source material.

Totally agree, @Scrawler2:disqus . Sweeney Todd leaves something to be desired as a musical adaptation, but as a film, it blows Les Mis out of the water.

I rather like Joe Cocker's version of "Come Together" on its own, but the scene in the movie was dumb as fuck. Cocker shows up and acts like a total spaz as three different characters.

When I voted for her, I was hoping that somehow a Tom Hardy reference was going to be part of her prize. Perfect.

The love that Magic Mike got from so many people had me scratching my head. An engaging first half followed by a bog-standard, melodramatic second half. Plus an insipid romantic subplot with an unbelievably terrible actress. Someone please stop Cody Horn from ruining other movies.

Not enough likes in the world for this comment. I'm entertained by all my favorite movies, including The Seventh Seal and There Will Be Blood. Having a character reveal a heretofore unknown side of himself or a director surprise me with an innovative camera angle is equally as exciting to me as seeing stuff blow up

I had problems with Your Sister's Sister in terms of story and structure, but Emily Blunt and especially Rosemarie DeWitt are sensational.

Savages was heinous, which was a huge disappointment because I liked the book.

I sorta hated it. Everything in India before they got on the ship was twee as fuck, and the whole kid-alone-in-the-middle-of-the-ocean-with-a-tiger situation never seems as serious as it ought to. Plus (to crib from someone on Twitter), the movie looks like a series of Windows 95 wallpapers.
