I enjoyed it as a collection of short stories, and like all collections, I liked some entries more than others. The connections between them meant virtually nothing to me (especially when it seemed that Mitchell was really stretching to make the connection apparent), and I thought the last line that so many people

The slave really bothered me in the book as well. It felt like such a throwback to, as you said, the Magical Negro trope. When he saves you-know-who, I thought, "Really, you're going there? Really?!?"

I've both read the book and seen the movie, and I prefer the movie. The book is good, but the artistry of the movie is at another level entirely.

his muffin! I'll crimson his face! I'll butter his bean and serve it to him cold
I will! Then I'll deliver a blow to the mouth area, the blood from which will

"At the same time it seems like the writers are really ratcheting up Brody's villain traits. He came across as almost narcissistic this week (with believing Carrie forgave him) but I still think he is far more sympathetic of a character."

Nope, I agree. He definitely has a point of view, and his was by the far the most cohesive collection, but I just found everything so unattractive and cheap-looking.

Halfway through the episode, I actually said out loud, "This is pretty terrible." The line about spilling wine on herself was moderately clever, but otherwise, it wasn't funny at all. And the whole thing had such a weird rhythm, like they wanted to give everyone their moment but couldn't figure out how to make it

That's the best part about Ed Wood, the fact that it doesn't mock Wood or condescend to him. He's never presented as having even the slightest bit of talent, but the movie and Burton clearly admire him for being committed to his craft and having a never-say-die attitude. The whole thing is refreshingly free of

I've seriously considered writing letters to Netflix suggesting that they incorporate half-stars, because I feel bad giving a movie three stars when I really think it should be three and a half.
