I’d say “yes and no” on the food part. Back in suburban Chicago I regulared a bar that was by every definition a dive. The regulars day drinking. Cheap Old Styles. “Lingerie shows” in the 90s. But made killer pizza. It was Chicago though.
I don’t see it happen as much as it used to, but a good diver bar you regular, the bartender places un upside down shot glass in front of you, buying your next beer.

I can count on one hand the number of place I can get a pizza puff (as far as I know anyway) in Phoenix. But fortunately, one of them is close by.
There were a few, maybe one left, gas stations in Phoenix known for their gyro. Need to see what’s left, been a while.
