"certain viewing situations" is the key. Beyond that it might increase pixel density but is it worth the cost bump. Specifically when you take into account the lack of 4k content. But this technology would benefit EVERY sized tv. Just need to see if it catches on and how much content is made for it.

Agree. I don't need 4k because I don't have a 60-70 inch TV. However this would make my current sized tv bonkers.

Ice coverage as of May 2014 seems like a poor comparison for multi-year ice which has survived two summers. Especially considering how varied the ice coverage can be.

I think so. If I remember right (too lazy to look it up) they got their in-house R up to the numbers you mentioned. I think that one involved boring it over a bit too though.
