I don’t think it’s even legally possible.

What about that social network that was purchased last year, and his owner started vandalizing it as soon as the deal closed.

Holy shit, Opera does not fuck about.

“But they don’t understand our business GENIUS!”

These guys are straight up Elmu levels of jackass.

Yep, the last decade or so we’ve seen old men so disconnected from reality, who are also in major positions of power, say and do some incredibly baffling things. It’s never been 5d chess and it always explainable via Hanlons razor.

I have a hard time believing they could ever get any distributor to agree to that. That’s just a crazily insane thing to try and monetize.

Yeah the lack of a contract or even any consideration there would really blow that idea up completely.

That there’s no way that they could be this clueless over how this was going to received.”

I predict a classic tactic used in business, politics and negotiations. You want $50 but your target will be incensed, angry that you’re asking for it. So instead you ask for $500, you incur a little wrath then say “Ok, how about $50?”. Your target says “Whew, ok $50 isn’t so bad” when in truth, the $50 would’ve been

Jesus Christ. IANAL and all, but I feel like that alone HAS to be begging for a lawsuit of some kind.

John “you’re all fucking idiots” Riccitiello, former EA CEO, gets publicly slammed and shamed for his and other board member’s greed.

It may no longer be relevant, but I thought the big twist in the Unity saga was the “It’s not the developer that has to pay the Runtime Fee, it’s the distributor.”

It should be added that Unity gets to decide what is a charity, so even though the profits may be donated to a charity Unity can just decide that they don’t actually consider it a charity and so it wouldn’t fall under the exemption.

They’re also ‘confused’.

So they’re anxious, insecure and just don’t get it. For which Unity apologizes?

And yet no matter what walking back they do at this point, merely showing they are able and potentially willing to make a change like this should remain a massive red flag to any developer.

Even if they decide to completely scrap this inane idea, they’re screwed. Who would ever trust them after this?

Don’t worry, the frog of shame has them covered:

lol they called devs angsty, they couldn’t even do the ole corporate apology without sliding in some accusatory bullshit

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a company so thoroughly come out of nowhere and shoot itself in the foot as hard as Unity has.
