I would love to play the special version of Shadow's of Mordor that this review panel was judging on.
The version I played had a forgettable by-the-numbers 'revenge' story, with a dull main character with cliche vendetta.

I'm all in when this eventually gets ported to Xbox One/PS4.
"Bland and unforgettable story makes for unimaginate, repetitive missions."
I'm not sure I've ever seen a set of commercials that exaggerates the actual product as much as these big budget mobile game ads. I've seen you Americans sue for far less!
Kind of a pussy move.
Yeah... I think they've killed this bit with one too many milkings.
Yup. Exactly. Nowadays in a game like ACU or Watchdogs you start the game and there's literally markers EVERYWHERE on the map. There's really no sense of progression and the game really does just feel like a routine shopping list. The fact is, most of those markers are filled with recycled side content that is there…
I did try that... but I just couldn't get on board with as it's harder to follow subtitles in games whenever there's dialogue during gameplay.
Never played Rogue, and only just started Unity (thanks for the minor spoiler!?).
The problem with AC games is now that they've made so many, they assume the user wants to become an Assassin right away. AC2 was a great 'origin' story, with a well paced build up that gradually led you to become an Assassin. With every 'new' installment, they streamline the ascension and you're a lethal member of the…
Sounds like pretty minimal issues for the BETA of a game that's probably a year away from release.
I realize you're still new here... but that was kind of a lazy post. We don't come to Kotaku/Deadspin for 'Here it is' like links to other sites.
I really don't like being this guy (because that guy is annoying), but Shadows of Mordor was seriously overrated.
I work in the industry, and used to work at a major 3P developer. I realize that developing on Xbox One vs. PS4 is obviously a laborious process... but it's also a no-brainer and an easy decision in the long run when you can double your revenue.
Dude, no. I hate to sound cynical... but suggesting that they withheld release of the game on Xbox One over cross-platform functionality is just bogus. Development of Xbox One/PS4 games are basically the same, so porting from one console to the other isn't a huge ordeal.
Why would a 3P publisher like Capcom forfeit potentially 40-50% of revenue by not releasing on Xbox? They've developed Street Fighter games for two decades on their own, so I'm pretty sure they didn't need Sony's help on that front. It was clearly a play by Sony to gain console exclusivity on a high profile IP... the…
Absolute rubbish. Sony paid for the exclusivity in the same way MS did for the next Tomb Raider... yet they seemingly escaped the same backlash.
I usually have pretty similar tastes in games as you, but I guess we're just a bit off on this one. I'm still pretty early days into the story, but I'm really digging it so far. I agree the level design is a bit less ambitious, but it kinda feels old school AC which is nice. ACIV Black Flag was an excellent game, but…
And that's where we get into murky territory. Because really: how do you compare the 30-50 hours it takes to play Shadow of Mordor with the 400-plus some have spent with Destiny? Or the 30-40 hours for Grand Theft Auto 5? The 50-80 hours of Dragon Age: Inquisition? That's not even considering other great games that…
So I'm pretty sure it's just the media (or Kotaku maybe) that are obsessed over this.
