I like that, as a Mariners fan, I can see this as both the right move AND a severely underwhelming one.

Seager seems broken and I don’t think I’ve gone from “I like this guy and I’m glad he’s ours” to “trade the bum already” as fast as I have with him.
My best guess is that he’s swinging for the VP nod on a Centrist-ish ticket. In any other election, a Biden/O’Rourke ticket would have pretty damn good odds.
“Harried parents with small kids” are the scariest part of everything you just said, particularly if it goes bad. There’s something especially painful about hearing someone’s screaming children at midnight after getting out of working a late shift.
Going to the store during a Seahawks game is wonderful. Less bleating 12s, and more quick checkouts for me.
In my city, there’s a 24 hour WinCo and a 7am-2am Safeway, as well as a 24/7 Walmart. You’d think this would leave SOME hours of the day to be devoid of people, and you would be wrong. The problem is that, despite the hours, they NEVER have more than 2 checkers working at one time. I used to get off work at 9:30 pm,…
The GOP will fight this tooth and nail, if only because it would wreck their carefully constructed house of cards regarding minority rule. Sure, inroads could be made in 20 years, but that’s 20 years of undoing Trump’s crap and ramming much needed structural reforms through congress.
I’m actually convinced that offering small grants and low interest governmental loans to small businesses, in the style of the microcredit systems, would be an amazing thing for local and state governments to invest in. If done conscientiously, the ROI for economic development would be pretty significant, right?
My best assumption is that they believe they need a good legal reason to go for them, as to minimize expected blowback.
I think it would be “risk of unified democratic control in the white house and congress.” If the House investigations can deeply tarnish Trump AND highlight the link between Trump and the GOP, there’s a potential risk that they may lose the Senate. That could be dangerous in light of the current progressive* tilt of…
Here’s a counterpoint though: what if impeaching him won’t kill his “movement?”
For all of the sensationalism in the book, I think Fire and Fury got it right. Trump and his entourage never wanted him to get the job; they wanted him to lose juuuuuuust close enough (but not too close) that he could wield influence over his devout followers on the media landscape.
Besides, isn’t this what these guys have been yelling about whenever federal gun legislation gets proposed? This is literally in the “States’ Rights” camp!
I’d be fine with it IF there was strong language that could be easily read as targeting fundamentalist christian rhetoric in America as well, but we all know that isn’t where this is going.
To be fair, you’d have to ignore the occupant of the White House at the time, and the ferocious rhetoric that having a black president inspired from the right.
Cynical Theory: The Dems are smart enough to know that Fox won’t treat their debate fairly, but they value the low-to-middle class, blue collar white vote so heavily that they needed a “reason” to back out without making the whole “independent that has economic anxiety” crowd think that the Dems are biased.
This same thing happened to me with the Eagles after they spared America from another Patriots title. I was hoping that they’d become Giants 2.0 and be kryptonite for the Patriots, with me unreasonably screaming “BIG DICK NICK” at unwitting bar patrons during another Patriot-shredding Super Bowl. They let me down last…
Look, if the QB is under pressure and panicking to throw that 5 yard flare pass right before a defensive tackle mauls him like a bear, they can throw it as hard as they damn well please.
On one hand, it’s never too late for impeachment. The clown’s done massive damage and continues to do massive damage through his actions and his appointments.
If anything, it’s a card to play, but not this early in the game. You need to give enough info to peel off some conservative-leaning voters before you start trying to kill the right-wing machine.
