Yeah, that was a bit disappointing. I get that maybe Jezebel isn’t the place people expect to get news on Hawking, but at least a crosspost to the Gizmodo piece or something... and give him at least his own blurb without making it mostly about Perry misspelling his name. (And yeah, how does it not make lead story

This is an interesting tactic. I may take this tactic in future conversations, thank you.

I understand this argument. I understand, but I disagree. The question becomes just how much do you want to cushion the truth in order to make it palatable, and how much truth do you lose in that process?

This is overall a good comment but this:

Did you give Nu Who a shot? The revival starting with Eccleston was miles better than the hokey 70s stuff.

Agreed on all points, except that I think Matt Smith is a fine actor. I hated his doctor on Doctor Who, but that was down to poor writing rather than poor acting. I thought he was pretty brilliant on The Crown, but he didn’t outshine Foy who was stellar.

I guess you didn’t make it very far into the series, because that’s actually a major part of the plot that Elizabeth is queen immediately on her father’s death, but Churchill pushes to delay her coronation for about a year (for his own political reasons). They also reference the fact that her father’s own coronation

Yes, though I’d modify 3 to say he should be fired from the police force rather. Do we know if he’s an NRA member? The vast majority of gun owners aren’t. Given the stupidity of this guy though, it might actually be a safe assumption.

You can believe several things at once. You can believe that police shouldn’t shoot innocent black men. You can believe that people, period, shouldn’t be shooting other people. You can believe that the Rodney King verdict, which influenced the verdict in the Simpson case, was a mockery of justice. You can also

I mean, also - she’s an ART teacher. Her style makes perfect sense for her profession, and is therefore arguably very professional.

It’s always interesting to me when people are willing to look the other way for miscarriages of justice that end up with the appropriate result. Yes, OJ obviously did it and should have ended up in prison. But it was absolutely critical to the defense of our justice system that he be acquitted, because there were

Wow.

This is an interesting perspective, thanks for sharing. I’ve definitely heard mixed reviews of Catholic schools (my dad is scarred for life from his), but in general it seems like the quality of education is at least decent.

And I should clarify because on a reread my pov is unclear: fuck Tom Brady. My point is that somehow this stupid stuff like having trump hats but never explicitly saying who he voted for is enough to appease liberal fans, and it’s absurd.

I live in Massachusetts. The massive amount of Brady fans who refuse to accept he’s a trump supporter is staggering.

It’s true that that’s a big component. But my experience with school choice is that I had two siblings who did very very poorly in our school because they had emotional issues and issues with bullying that the school was completely failing to deal with in any way. This was in an upper middle class town. By switching

This is an interesting note. I would expect the MSPCA to be more stringent with dogs than they were with cats, but maybe that’s a faulty assumption based on my experiences (and other people’s) with private shelters. (And it’s been over a decade so I don’t remember the specifics of our cat adoption, but I think we

Same. I told them it was an issue because it makes it effectively impossible to read pending comments that weren’t one of the first five in a thread.

Wondering the same.

Yes! I’m so glad to see other people having this issue. I can see full threads but only if I don’t allow pending comments. If I show pending, I can’t expand threads. I emailed them late last week and they told me to clear my cookies and temporary data and did that fix it. I told them nope, it did not. No follow up.
