yes and no. originally up through windwaker there was no timeline at all. only certain games were sequels but no connected thread it wasnt until they got tired of being asked about the timeline that they put one together for the hyrule historia while actively breaking the timeline whenever convenient.

you have to turn it on in the rare replay menu but basically it lets you aim and move. still chunky compared to modern fps but much better than the side straffing controls. only exception is the final boss which is actually easier with the straffing controls.
