Here are my best guesses at the four shows:

Yep. I work for a university and got one of these today from a former student. I shudder to think what would happen if I got one from a current student, since I do have students sending me legit stuff via Google docs this time of year and they don’t always have very good spelling or grammar in their e-mails. (I choose

...And now I have to add Borne to my list of things to read. That sounds amazing.

Have you read Max Gladstone’s Craft Sequence novels? They’re pretty delightfully weird urban fantasy about, as Gladstone puts it, “skeletal law wizards.”

And if you like Mieville in general, you might also like Catherynne Valente. I’ve only read a few of her books, but they’ve had a similar level of literary weirdness

I got an ARC of City of Miracles, and it did not disappoint.

This is a lovely, chill game. It won’t satisfy you if you’re looking for a competitive, complex game but it’s the game I always pull out when I play games with people who don’t normally play board games.

It took me a while (read: past book 1) to get into the series because the first book is a little slow and the world is weird, in an immersive kind of way. (There’s not always a ton of exposition to explain why things are the way they are.) With that said, this series is great. It blends genres well, with fantasy,

As a prolific reader with a few “diverse” identities, I’d say that the way to make it feel natural is to make sure the characters themselves feel like real people. That means working hard not to fall into tropes and stereotypes when writing them. I’m not a writer, but if I were writing diverse characters, I’d first

There are A LOT of scholars who have studied representation and its effects on children. They have used a variety of research methods (e.g., surveys, in-depth interviews, even experiments). The results can generally be summarized as follows: minority children can grow up believing that opportunities aren’t available

Doesn’t apply to pre-orders either, even though that’s not listed in the terms of the discount.

I get that, and normally I’d agree that doing something like that isn’t great writing. Here’s why I think she’s actually kind of a genius for doing it here, though: Essun and Nassun have gone through a whole lot of trauma. (Not going into specifics so this isn’t too spoilery for people who haven’t read the books.)

I really enjoyed The Obelisk Gate. I preferred The Fifth Season (it’s one of my current all-time favorites), but I thought TOG was good too. I enjoyed seeing Nassun’s character development and how she handled her father. Things were kind of slow with Essun, but I still liked those parts. I was excited to find out what

Looks like I have some reading to add to my list!

I liked CJA’s book. I loved The Obelisk Gate and can’t wait to read the last book later this year. I have Everfair on my to-read list and Amazon keeps recommending Ninefox Gambit and all those nominated novellas to me so I should probably take a look at them.

So, what

It makes sense to me that there would be overweight people in the apocalypse, especially ones in communities. Beyond genetics and any disorders they might have, there’s a simple biological reason for some of them to be overweight. 1) Most of the food they’re eating is processed food, perhaps even junk food, because

I loved the book version of this. The movie? Not so much. My husband and I almost quit watching halfway through.

I LOVE that series by Fred Clark.

Some Christians, like me, look at that concept of “stewardship” as needing to protect and care for the earth and manage its resources carefully. The others believe that God put humans in charge to master and dominate the earth. There are some gender issues wrapped up in that too. There’s also the issue of a whole lot

I’m a fan of musicals too, and while I enjoyed it, it was nothing special. The music was nice and it had good cinematography, but I really honestly don’t think this is going to be a classic. I think the reason it’s getting nominated for everything is because it’s Hollywood bait. It’s a musical about how hard it is to

I enjoyed Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series, but it’s definitely a perfect example of the world becoming too big for the story. When Brandon Sanderson took over the series after Jordan’s death, the first book he wrote was just tying off all those plot threads that were going nowhere.

Ok, I just watched the movie. I will agree with other users who said that the actress who played Melanie was excellent. However, that’s really the only good thing I have to say about this movie. It managed to include all the major scenes without providing the context to make it coherent. The book made sense and had
